The Parable of the Wedding Feast Matt 22:2-14

Discussion Questions What is the Wedding feast? It is the joining of the body of Christ to Jesus Christ at the end of times and into the eternity (Jesus Christ as God: “I and my Father are one.” - John 10:30 ). Commonly referred to as “Going to Heaven.” Who do you think the king in the story represents? Who is the son? Who would the guests represent? Why do you think Jesus used the idea of abanquet to represent heaven? What was the first response of the invited guests to the king’s invitation? After reading verses 8-10, where did the slaves (servants) go to find the 2nd group of invited guests? What two types of people were invited? How did the king fill the wedding hall? Who do these guests represent? In vs 8 it says that those originally invited didn't deserve to come. Upon what basis didn't they deserve to come? Verse 11 points to a problem that the king identifies with one of the guests. What is it? Typically guests would be provided a garment for a special wedding feast such as the one given by the king. What are some reasons why you think the guest did not wear the garment? According to verse 12, the guest had no response to give to the king and was speechless. Who does the man without wedding clothes represent?

Why do you think he didn’t speak? Garments Of Skin Genesis 3:7, 21 7 Then the eyes of both of them were opened, and they knew that they were naked; and they sewed fig leaves together and made themselves loin coverings. 21 The LORD God made garments of skin for Adam and his wife, and clothed them. What do the king’s actions teach about God? Why did Adam and Eve tried to clothe themselves? Who eventually clothed them, and with what were they clothed? Filthy Garments Isaiah 64:6 For all of us have become like one who is unclean, and all our righteous deeds are like a filthy garment; and all of us wither like a leaf, And our iniquities, like the wind, take us away. What does this verses tell us about our clothing and what they represent? Garments Of Salvation Isaiah 61:10 I will rejoice greatly in the LORD, My soul will exult in my God; For He has clothed me with garments of salvation, He has wrapped me with a robe of righteousness, As a bridegroom decks himself with a garland, And as a bride adorns herself with her jewels. 2 Cor. 5:21

He made Him who knew no sin to be sin on our behalf, so that we might become the righteousness of God in Him. Rom 13:14 Rather, clothe yourselves with the Lord Jesus Christ, and do not think about how to

gratify the desires of the sinful nature. What do these verses tell us that the wedding clothes represent? At what cost were the clothes provided and who provided them? Everything Is Ready For The Banquet

What lessons can we draw from the guest who decided to bring his own clothes to the wedding banquet?

In verse four the king says “I have prepared my dinner….and everything is ready.” What is the king waiting for? Read 2nd Peter 3:9. How does this verse help us understand the king’s wait & his desire regarding his son’s wedding banquet? But what are these wedding clothes? Rev 19:7-9 Let us rejoice and be glad and give him glory! For the wedding of the Lamb has come, and his bride has made herself ready. Fine linen, bright and clean, was given her to wear. (Fine linen stands for the righteous acts of the saints. Then the angel said to me, "Write: 'Blessed are those who are invited to the wedding supper of the Lamb!' It was his responsibility to clothe himself thusly, which he failed to do. Who finally gets to come to the wedding? If the wedding represents God's kingdom, what kind of people will be part of God's kingdom according to this story? How can we prepare wedding clothes for the heavenly banquet? What does it mean to make a commitment to Jesus? The Bible says that God extends an invitation to us.He is knocking at the door waiting for us to invite him into our lives. God is that King Eternal. We are God’s children, all of us, both good and bad, for even satan was a being (child) created by God: God likens His children going into the eternity (going to Heaven) with a wedding feast. Jesus Christ is the Husband, and the church (a body of believers in good standing) is the bride. His friends are to be His bride (spiritually speaking): Our Heavenly Father gave us to be a bride to the Bridegroom of all bridegrooms, Jesus Christ; and into Jesus Christ the Father God has entrusted us just as a man marries off his beloved daughter to a good man to keep care of her.
