1. Background of development • When WA-1 models were put on the market, they were at a overwhelmingly dominant position in its main specifications, environment of the operator seat, operating performance, etc.. • Those advantages have been lowered, however, as the competitor model-changes. In particular, the environment of the operator seat of large class loaders are remarkably lower. • In addition, there has been a push by the world wide market to introduce an updated version of the large size models since the introduction of the Dash 3 up to the WA500.

Product features and product strategy

The sales of the WA800-1 has been directed by emphasizing its merit in hourly production (15% to 20%) over the CAT992D. The CAT has drastically changed the vehicle grade from D to G, but we will continue to emphasize the difference in hourly production with the WA900-3 as opposed to the CAT992G in sales campaign.

Our market strategy has been made up of a combination of 10 m3 class loaders and 80 ton dump trucks. As an alternate machine for the WA800-1 or CAT992D, we will put into the market the WA800-3 which inherits the quality and performance of the WA800.

For the users who do not use the machine for excavation, we will provide the WA800-3 with a 12.3 m3 bucket of the same size as that of the CAT992G for loading work only (option) to confront it with the CAT992G. Model name

Increase in bucket capacity and strength 1. Spade nose bucket with teeth (1) The bucket capacity has been increased from 5.6m3 to 6.1m3. (2) The side edges have been changed from double-plate type to single-plate type to increase the thickness, thereby improving the wear resistance (13 t + 19 t 32t). (3) The cutting-edge tip angle of the excavating bucket has been changed to improve penetrability of the bucket. (Edge tip angle of excavating bucket changed from 10o to 14o) (4) Use of a bigger plate bet ween teeth allows better grounding of the bucket. Placement of the plate ahead of the base edge has also improved penetrability of the bucket. (5) The wear plates is bolt-on type as is.

2. Straight edge bucket with teeth (1) The bucket capacity has been increased from 5.6m3 to 6.1m3. (2) The side edges have been changed from double-plate type to single-plate type to increase the thickness, thereby improving the wear resistance (13 t + 19 t 32t). WA600: Page 7

Engine horsepower and maximum rim pull increased

The increase in the engine horsepower and the change in the transmission reduction ratio provide increased rim pull for even more powerful thrusting and digging operations.

The engine with a greater capacity provides maximum torque and achieves powerful engine performance while reducing exhaust gas components (clearing the exhaust gas regulations in USA and Europe). It also has better exhaust gas color, and thus it is an engine cleaner than any other engines.

Dual hydraulic speed system employed The exclusive dual hydraulic speed system ensures shorter cycle time. (1) When digging and scooping, most of the engine power is applied to the wheels, so the digging capacity is increased. (2) The rim pull when scooping up has drastically been increased (32% increase over -1 model), and so even if stepping on the accelerator pedal is relaxed, it is possible to obtain the same excavating performance as or superior to that of the current machine and it also economizes fuel consumption. (3) The boom speed is increased while raising the boom when approaching dump trucks. To achieve the above, The size of the loader pump has been increased by 5%. The engine horsepower has also been increased from 415 ps to 445 ps. Activation of cut-off valve ! <

""6 !" " 7$6 7 Two accumulators are used to reduce the low frequency vibration resulting from pitching and bouncing when traveling on rough ground surfaces. 40 to 50% reduction of low frequency vibration can make it possible to provide a comfortable ride for the operator together with excellent travel and steering stability. Automatic selection of the two accumulators (high pressure, low pressure) by the Komatsu exclusive travel speed sensor and controller allows the machine to display the optimum vibration suppression effect and provide smooth travel both for traveling when loaded and traveling empty for such operations as digging, approaching dump tracks, load and carry operations, and movement between job sites. The ECSS of the WA300 or higher is provided with a travel speed sensor and controller and displays the optimum vibration suppression effect according to the work and traveling conditions. When the travel speed exceeds 5km/h, the ECSS automatically turns on and when the travel speed slows down below 5 km/h during such operations as digging or approaching dump trucks it automatically turns off, eliminating the necessity of complicated switch operation.

Comparison with competitors' machines The 988F2 has adopted steering operating system with the stick lever. Even if a steering angle is large, this system requires small operating stroke, ensuring easy operation. However, since the fine control ability is poor and lever operation is heavy, it is evaluated that operator's wrist gets tired after operation for an extended period of time and that speedy work cannot be performed with this machine. The WA600 provides a joystick steering as an optional item for users who need the lever operating system, which ensures good fine controllability and light operating effort.

Kick-down switch for fast, powerful loading

z

When carrying out scooping-up operations of soil, it is possible to shift down from F2 to F1 by pressing the kick-down switch at the top of the boom control lever. This makes it possible to carry out powerful scooping operations. After scooping up the load, when the directional lever is shifted from F to R, the gear is automatically returned to 2nd. This means that there is no need to operate the gear shift lever between 2nd and 1st, thus making it possible to carry out digging and loading operations easily.

WA600: Page 37

Joystick steering available (option) The joystick steering greatly reduces operator's steering load, achieving high work efficiency. (1) Just moving the joystick left or right makes it possible to operate the steering. (2) Gear changing between forward and reverse can be easily made by just pressing the button at the top of the lever. Automatic gear shifting does not require operation of the transmission control lever. (3) When the manual shifting is selected, gear changing between forward and reverse can be made with the button on the lever. Transmission gear is shifted up and down with two buttons on the boom lever. (4) The joystick lever is built-into the seat and has a mechanism which allows the operator to change the lever position as desired. Left

Increased engine horsepower

With the increased engine horsepower and low-speed torque, the WA800-3 and WA900-3 have an improved engine response, providing much more powerful penetration and digging.

Using the electronic control governor, the WA700-3 reduces exhaust gas components (clearing the exhaust gas regulations in USA and Europe).

Kick-down switch for fast, powerful loading When carrying out scooping-up operations of soil, it is possible to shift down from F2 to F1 by pressing the kick-down switch at the top of the boom control lever.

WA600/900-3 Question & Answer Session: Questions fielded by Mr. Nozawa – Design Manager, and Mr. Tagawa – Product Planning Dept.

1.

Q. Is the WA800-3 full turn static tipping load greater than the CAT 992G? A. I don’t know off hand, but that information is probably in your handout material.

2.

Q. Has the main hydraulic control valve on the WA600-3 changed? A. Yes, but only the boom spool.

3.

Q. Can we still add service valves? A. Yes, it is a monoblock design, just like the WA600-1.

4.

Q. Can you tell us the specific changes to the control valve? A. Yes, the boom spool itself was modified for greater flow.

5.

Q. Can we fit the WD600-3 differential pinion gear on the WA600-3? A. The differential is the same as the WA600-1.

6.

Q. Thank you for supplying the emission levels for the WA600-1, but we also need this information for all the other machines as well. We need this information even if the machines are not emissionized. A. We will provide the information later.

7.

Q. How popular is the Limited Slip Differential option on the WA600-3 going to be? A. We’re not really sure, but it is almost required in Europe.

8.

Q. Does the WA600-3 use a conventional or torque proportioning differential? A. It uses a conventional differential.

9.

Q. Which machines use torque proportioning differentials as standard. A. WA450 & smaller.

10.

Q. Could you go through the development of changes to the WA600 hydraulic pumps all the way to the current situation.? A. See attachment.

11.

Q. Could you tell us what changes have been made to the water pump on the 6D170 engine. A. That information was released in a Parts & Service news, but we will provide it. See attachment.

12.

Q. Has there been any change to the procedure to install the T/M reverse gear roll pin? A. See attachment.

13.

Q. Can you give us any information on the abnormal wear of the differential spider shaft on the WA700-1? A. See attachment.

14.

Q. Can you provide us with the serial number break for smaller machines which had the ECSS with the boom down prevention function installed? A. See attachment. END

WA 600/900-3 Customer Requests/Comments: 1.

We would very much like noise, vibration, and emission levels to be included as standard in the machine specifications for the entire product line. In many cases, we are not allowed to sell a machine without this data. END
