The VortiBlend Polymer Activation System is the product of collaborative expertise gained over the past 25 years of experience in hundreds of polymer activation applications across a wide spectrum of industrial and municipal environments. This experience has developed a keen understanding of the polymer hydration equipment offered from a host of manufacturers. From the laboratory, through design and manufacturing, to hands on work in the field, we’ve learned what works well and what doesn’t. The VortiBlend Series fills the need for a reliable, low maintenance, economical, high performance liquid polymer activation system that is simple to operate. Our approach to the commercial aspects (Money Back Guarantee) makes it easy for our clients to invest in this technology without risk. VB Series with diaphragm pump

Triple Stage Mixing

The unique three stage design eliminates the costs, maintenance and failures inherent to other designs currently available. The Primary mixing stage utilizes a specialized Hydro-Kinetic Disperser Module to impart an initial maximized energy at the critical Moment of Initial Wetting, when the neat polymer first mixes with water. The Secondary activation stage generates an Orbital Motion pattern inside a turbulent disturbed pressure field. The resultant blending environment produces high Reynolds numbers and is dominated by non linear inertial forces, random eddies and vortices. The Tertiary mixing stage optimizes the hydration process and associated Charge Site Exposure with tapered cyclonic energy agitation prior to discharge from the unit.

Operational Sequence The VortiBlend operation is simple. First , the user enters the desired polymer concentration via a touch pad controller and selects manual or automatic operation. Primary dilution water flow is controlled by a solenoid valve which allows water to enter the unit. Primary dilution water flow rate data is measured continuously to assure that adequate flow is present and fed back to the system PDC-1 control unit. Using calculations derived from the calibration stage, the unit automatically adjusts the polymer pump output to achieve the desired concentration. Under conditions of high or low concentration, a loss of water flow or polymer feed (optional) the system automatically shuts down and notifies with an alarm. Each feed cycle is followed by an adjustable, multi-stage flush cycle to eliminate any plugging . The system can be operated remote via a 4-40mA or simple on/off signal. A secondary dilution module can be added for applications requiring post dilution. 1450 W. Fullerton Avenue ♦ Addison, Illinois 60101 ♦ Phone: 630.543.1911 ♦ Fax : 630.543.2089 ♦ www.chemflow.com

PDC 1— Polymer Dosage Controller One Touch Control The Chem-Flow PDC 1 microprocessor control center manages all unit functionality automatically. This fully customizable controller displays system status and annotates alarm conditions such as loss of polymer or water flow. One glance at the eight digit, alphanumeric LED operating system display shows real-time concentration and feed rate. It can be operated remotely with a 4-20mA or a simple dry contact signal. The desired polymer concentration strength is selected via three touch pads and the system will deliver it precisely. The polymer rate calibration feature and the adjustable automatic flushing cycle assures hassle free operation and reliability over a broad range of products and applications.

• Simple • Innovative • Reliable

The VortiBlend unit is controlled through an on-off-remote circuit via the PDC-1 controller. In the remote switch position, the unit can accept a system enabled signal. The VortiBlend unit is manually controlled in the on position. The PDC-1 paces the polymer metering pump based operator programmed data or based on a 4-20mA input signal.

• Economical

Local operation allows the operator to input a concentration set-point in the PDC-1 controller while remote operation allows the operator to adjust the concentration set-point via a 4-20mA input signal. The PDC-1 will compute a ratio based on concentration set-point and dilution flow provided from the dilution water flow sensor and generates a signal to pace the polymer metering pump based on these parameters. The PDC-1 controller can easily be configured to change to the pump output capacity as dilution water supply changes. The PDC-1 incorporates a low flow dilution set-point that will disable the polymer metering pump upon low flow and provides a local fault condition indicator. A remote fault condition output contact provides a low flow condition or a concentration alarm.

INSTALLATION AND APPLICATION REVIEW

Is the appropriate power supply available?

The NEMA 4X control box provides protection from dust, rain, and hose directed water. Is this sufficient? (some applications require hazardous or special approvals)

Is the location for the equipment level and of sufficient space (6X6 feet) to allow for safe and easy access to the system for maintenance? (allow additional space for tanks)

Can the system be located in a well lit area protected from direct sunlight where the ambient temperature is between 40 and 110 º F?

Can the feeder be located within 10 feet (horizontal) of the chemical supply, no lower than 10 feet below the polymer tank to ensure flooded suction without creating excessive pump inlet pressure, or no higher than 3 feet above the tank so that the pump has no more than 3 feet of suction lift?

Has a suitable route for the solution discharge line been surveyed and measured?

If the solution is being directly fed to the process is the injection point pressure at least 30 PSI less than the water supply pressure?

Have the suction and discharge lines been suitably sized for viscous fluids?

Is the water supply meet the systems dilution flow rate at minimum pressure of 30 PSI and at least 30 PSI higher than the polymer injection point at a temperature between 50-80º F?

Is the water pressure below the systems maximum rated pressure?

Is the pH of the water between 6-8?

If the water has excessive particulates has a basket strainer been installed? (y-strainer on system will quickly load if particulate is too high)
