POSITION DESCRIPTION Volunteer Child Care Assistants will support the *mission of KDCCC, which is to provide free, part-time childcare for income eligible families. Volunteers assist paid staff in the daily operation of the child care center and are needed to allow the Center to operate up to full capacity. Activities include: • Engaging children, six (6) weeks through five years of age, in play and other educational activities • Supervising children to provide a healthy, safe and nurturing environment • Interacting in a positive way with children, parents and staff (paid and unpaid) Qualifications: • 12 years of age or older • Interested in the well being of children • Consistent, dependable and accurate in carrying out assigned tasks Benefits: • Gaining an understanding of human development in infancy, toddlerhood and early childhood • Personal satisfaction of having helped children to exercise their physical abilities, grow cognitively and learn to interact with other children through play • Volunteer experience to include on resume; job references • Potential for internships, work study and practicum placements Volunteers will assist a minimum of two hours a day during the operating hours of the child care center, Monday–Friday, 11a.m.–3 p.m. Other volunteer opportunities are available in child care for the Even Start and Parent Education Programs as well as data entry and website maintenance. A commitment of at least two months is preferred. Supervision will be provided on site by paid staff. KDCCC is located in the First Congregational Church at 129 S. Park Street in Kalamazoo. NOTE: The entrance to the parking lot and church is on West Michigan directly across the street from the Chamber of Commerce building.
