Our Company VERA NAVIS was founded in March 2009 by two Naval Architects (Luis Batista and Pedro Antunes) and set ground in Almada, inside Lisbon metropolitan area, near the former facilities of LISNAVE. DS&T / NDAR – a solidly established company operating in the fields of naval architecture, ship building, ship operation and ship management – integrated afterwards as shareholder partner. The key concept supporting VERA NAVIS’ foundation is the delivery of an integrated service to customers, providing services for the marine industry from concept to commissioning, delivering full range of solutions in project / detail design up to shipbuilding supervision.
Our Services include:
Marine Design
Specialized Engineering Services
Concept Design
Finite Element Analysis
In order to fulfill the ship owner operational requirement and complex market contexts, the concept design has at this very first stage several feasible options as possible lay-outs. These lay-outs are discussed with the cooperation of the ship owner shaping the proposals into a customized first iteration of the vessel which will be used on the upcoming phases.
FEA method allows a detailed analysis of our marine structures concerning several failure modes within a single 3D model. Common types of analysis: - Preliminary hull girder strength assessment. – Detailed hull girder strength assessment; - Sub-modeling :secondary/ tertiary hull structure analysis; - Vibration analysis; - Buckling analysis; - USD analysis; - Shock analysis.
Project Design Includes general arrangements, structural layouts, accurate weight estimations, compartimentation, stability, machinery arrangement, diagram drawings and all this fitted into a good hull form ensuring efficient performance. The project design is also known as initial design and usually is lead until producing a contract design plan and corresponding technical specification which will be used towards first price indication.
Basic Design Includes final structural arrangements, machinery arrangements, piping routing arrangements, HVAC plans, deck outfitting plans, internal design and electrical schemes. All documentation and plans are produced in accordance technical demands by classification societies, regulatory authorities and ship owners.
Supervision Supervision work is carried out to ensure that building specification is followed up and all partners managing the process are supplied with permanent accurate information. The building process is a complex workflow where a continuous control of building practices in situ benefits all parts towards technical / economical successful projects
Main procurement decisions and production/procurement planning.
Detail design Detail Engineering provides tailor suit solutions for specific shipyard production technologies. The use of ShipConstructor software introduces an accurate design process in a full 3D environment integrating a multidisciplinary process for modeling structure, piping, equipment and drafting. Key concept for this project phase is: understanding the shipbuilder needs and develop suitable and accurate documentation.
Stability Calculations From concept design to detail design, stability calculations are carried out for all design phases. This allows that all the operational requirements are permanently matching specific regulations and design criteria. Stability calculations/ booklets are also produced for existent vessels/ marine structures.
Weight Control Weight control is an ongoing procedure starting from the project phase through basic and detail design until the production phase of the vessel. The completion of the procedure is the final inclining test of the vessel.
Evacuation analysis Starting from drawings a network model is done filling all empty spaces that can be used by passengers in their way to muster and embarking stations. It’s mandatory to study several cases (day-night, etc) and achieve a minimum evacuation time.
