The first time I attended to the first year lessons I noticed there was a brand new laptop and a slide projector, I thought children were having a real opportunity of learning with technology and developing their skills with that resource, but as the weeks passed I realized the teacher barely used the computer with the children. After some weeks I asked the teacher why she didn’t use the computer, and she told me that the government gave one of them for each grade but they never taught teachers how to use them, they only taught them how to plug and unplug them. After this answers I told her I knew how to do things with computers and she started asking me to do presentations with powerpoint, I did it, and I started noticing children were having so much fun during lessons because they were actually seeing huge colorful images instead of small photocopies of animals. Some weeks later the teacher told me about other teachers that didn’t know how to use computers too, and I offered her and the other teachers to give them lessons, teachers were willing to learn and they all attended to the lessons. If no one really teaches teachers to use technology, why does the government give it to them? I think this problem is usual in all government’s solutions and helps, they try to help people but it seems like they don’t pay too much attention to the things they do. If they want children to improve their knowledge and skills they have to train teachers to be better and to know how to use as many sources and resources as they can in order to accomplish that mission. How does this situation affect children and their education? This situation affects students directly, because they are not being taught as they should, schools right now have the opportunity to get new equipment by joining government’s plans and projects, if they joined those projects to really improve education instead of just getting some extra points of credibility, children would have a real opportunity of learning. What is the solution? In this case is simple, every time someone (people, institutions, government, etc.) gives something away to schools in order to improve education, the school must “force” this someone to provide training and give a clear explanation of the purpose of the object.
