Introduction: The myth of Venus and Adonis we can find it in “The Metamorphosis” of Ovidio. It's a myth with great artistic importance. His image more representative is the painting of Tiziano that it's in the “National Gallery “ of London. The protagonists of the myth are Venus, the goodness of the beauty and Adonis, her lover.
Venus and Adonis
Tías, king of Syria, had a daughter, Myrrh. He
said that not even the proper goddess of the beauty was so beautiful as she. The goddess Venus, in revenge, stimulated to Myrrh to love her father, unconsciously of her acts, they love to each other. Finally, when her father realized who was his lover, he chased her to kill her. Myrrh, ask for protection to the gods, who, to protect her, turned her into the tree that, for her is called "myrrh". Nine months after, from the tree the most beautiful child arose. Adonis. Venus took him and delivered him to Persefone, the goddess of the hells. When Adonis grew, Venus wanted to recover him, but Persefone was not consenting it, for that Zeus had to control. His decision was that Adonis had to live a few months with Venus and others with Persefone, but Adonis lived close to Venus always that he could. Adonis was keen on hunt, he died because of the wound of a wild boar. When Venus arrived near to Adonis, he was agonizing. Of each of his drops from blood, close to Venus's tears became in roses, an anemone arised.
Influence of the myth Paintings: The myth of Venus and Adonis has inspired a lot of painters to create their work. One of them is Tiziano, a painter of the renaissance, he painted the painting of “Venus and Adonis” between 1553 and 1554. It was an order of Felipe II. Tiziano reproduced the scene in which Venus try to stop Adonis, because if he goes to hunt he'll die. Another painter was Peter Paul Rubens, he copied all the works of Tiziano, among them, the painting of Venus and Adonis, that now is in the “Museo del Prado” of Madrid.

Opera: It is an opera in three acts and a prologue created about 1683. The history is based on the myth of Venus and Handsome youth. It was written for the court of the king Charles II in London. It includes many popular dances of the epoch.
Botany: - Tree Myrrh: The name of this tree comes from Myrrh daughter of “Tías”, king of Syria, and mother of Adonis. The Gods to protect her, became her in a tree that was called like her. - Roses: These flowers were dedicated to the Goddess Venus. It is said that while she was running in search of Adonis, her tears were becoming in roses and dyed red with the blood that the rose-bushes were producing to her.
Literature: In the literature Venus and Adonis were represented by William Shakespeare, who was inspired in this myth to create a poem, it was published in 1593. In his epoch it had a lot of success.
Psychology: Adonis's syndrome: Also called Vigorexia, is an illness that affects principally the men. It is the obsession to see himself muscular and interest for some anabolic steroids. It shares some aspects with the anorexia, the bulimia and other disorders of the nourishment.
