The ―Recalls R Us‖ attempt to recall Nye County Commissioner Butch Borasky has come to an end. Recalls R Us is a group of Pahrump people that became incensed with Borasky because of his position in support of the Federal Detention Facility being constructed in Pahrump.
But 86 people who signed the recall petition sent let3 ters to the secretary of state requesting their 3 names be stricken, of which Griffin said 76 of 4 those were legally entitled to sign it.

will not occur. But wait, there’s more. A notice of intent to recall Commissioner Gary Hollis, District 3, has been filed and gathering of signatures begun. Harley Kulkin has announced that he will run for Hollis’ seat. But, another group, called ―Pahrumpians who know Harley Kulkin‖ has published a paid scathing ad in the Pahrump Mirror.

Overdraft fees = cash cows for banks A 17 year old soldier, using his debit card to buy pizza when he didn’t have enough money in his checking account to cover the purchase the pizza joint, happily swiped his debit card in payment and the bank happily approved the purchase even though the soldier didn’t quite have enough money in his checking account to cover the cost.

this year. Banks classify the fees as ―loans.‖
So the bank, Bank of America in this instance, tacked on a $35 penalty charge to the $8.00 pizza purchase. That pizza then really cost the soldier $35+8=$43.00.
Congress is beginning to address the problem with banks—again.

Ross: Fishy
Arkansas Rep. Mike Ross. a Blue Dog Democrat, playing a key role in the health care debate — sold a piece of commercial property in 2007, assessed at $263,000, substantially more than a county assessment and an independent appraisal say it was worth. The buyer, USA Drugs, an Arkansas-based pharmacy chain paid $420,000.

business
USA Drug owner Stephen L. LaFrance Sr. also paid the Rosses $500,000 to $1 million for the pharmacy’s assets and paid Holly Ross an additional $100,000 to $250,000 for signing a noncompete agreement. Those numbers, which Mike Ross listed on the financial disclosure reports he files as a member of Congress, bring the total value of the transaction to between $1 million and $1.67 million.

House Minority Whip Eric Cantor (R-Va.) wins the award for why Republican favorable numbers on healthcare are barely above 20%. Cantor was recently asked what a woman with stomach cancer should do if she did not have the insurance to pay
huge medical costs. His advice? First, she should sell all of her lifetime possessions to desperately pay humongous medical costs, with the side benefit that this would make her poor, and

And that’s not counting the $2,300 campaign contribution Ross received from LaFrance two weeks after the sale closed. Health-related interests have donated $342,475 to Ross since 2007, according to federal campaign data maintained by the nonprofit Center for Responsive Politics. No other business sector has given Ross as much. Read more.

therefore qualify for health programs for the poor that many Republicans don’t support. If this fails, Mr. Cantor advises the woman to do this: beg. What a jerk. The Cantor Plan envisions a middleclass woman made poor
by layoffs, cancer and skyrocketing healthcare costs begging for charity as a last resort. That may just be the idea of Republican reform. Read more.

Karl Rove Following Nye-Gateway It was a shock to me to receive a notice from Twitter that Karl Rove is now following Tweets I make. I use Twitter a lot. In fact much of the news I review for posting on the Nye-Gateway to Nevada’s Rurals blog comes to me via Twitter. I also use Twitter to communicate with my family members and other bloggers, such as Desert Beacon and Reno and Its Discon-
Insider vs Last week the Nevada Senate Democratic Caucus announced it will back Tammy Peterson in the race for the state Senate seat held by Republican incumbent Barbara Cegavske. That created something of a fuss about the Caucus
tents. I’m not sure why Rove is following me. Nye-Gateway is read world wide but does not have national recognition like Huffington Post or Daily Kos. Maybe Rove follows me for the same reason I follow Sue Lowden and Dean Heller on Twitter. Helps me keep up with what they’re up to.
I have found Twitter to be an invaluable aid. In fact just this week I set up my blog software to issue a Tweet each time I upload a new post. Twitter then transmits the blog posting to all those that follow me on Twitter. So, Mr. Rove, gets to read each post instantly after it is posted. Read more.

Money talks. This blog post also shows how much Nevada Senators Harry Reid and John Ensign, and Congressman Dean Heller, Congresswomen Dina Titus and Shelley Berkley received from the health care lobbyists, according to the San Francisco Chronicle.
