Opti mi zing UV/EB coati ngs & i nks curi ng process, i s, like elsewhere, ce ntral to ensure performance and competitiveness. Ye t many formul ators onl y focus their e fforts on few formulation parameters such as i nitiator, pol ymer type , and vi scosity to adjust performance. More opti mal ly, the pe rformance i mpact of components wi thi n e ntire proce ss shoul d be consi de re d. Optimize UV / EB curing by reviewing the factors affecting curing performance & cost throughout the curing process (ingredients, UV lamps, ambient conditions...). You will gain in efficiency to:  

Tailor the curing speed of your coatings & inks / troubleshoot poor curing cases Avoid unwanted interference with UV stabilizers, scratch/ mar resistance agents...

Why you should attend: 1. Ge t i n one pl ace a comprehensive review by a hands-on formulator of al l the factors affe cting UV/EB curi ng i n practi ce

2. Anal yze your own curi ng issue fol lowing a structured set of questions and know di re cti ons to quickly fix it 3. Ke e p an e ye on latest rad-cure innovations (che mistry & e quipment) and asse ss whether your curre nt practi ce s should e volve

Who is it for? Ide al ly suited for experienced UV/EB coatings & inks formulators (at l e ast 1 ye ar of practi ce ) People considering to switch to rad -cure technology will also find it valuable to get started on good basis.

Outline This course will take an all-encompassing approach to the development and commercialization of a radiation cured coating The fol l owing points will be di scussed:

At the end of the training there will be a Q&A Session where you can pose questions to Mike Cligerman.

1. Formulation components & their effect on curing performance & cost • Bi nde rs • Photoi ni ti ators • Catal ysts • Succe ssful combi nations to be st sui t UV e qui p me nt A transcript of all the ques tions & answers will be made avail2. Radiation cure methods / sources & factors that impact cost able after the event. • EB Vs. UV i rradi ation me thods • Tradi ti onal UV Arc Lamps vs. LEDs • Ke y factors i mpacti ng curi ng proce ss (wave length, pe ak i ntensity, e xposure ti me…) 3. Impact of ambient conditions on curing performance • Te mpe rature • Humi di ty • Li ne spe e d 4. Creating step-by-step a new UV Coating Formulation 5. Troubleshooting poor curing performance • Ide nti fying the ori gin of the probl e m • Sol vi ng strategi es depending on the probl em root cause (che mi stry, e quipment or ambi e nt condi ti ons)

Afte r the compone nts have be en discussed, the y will be wrapped toge ther usi ng a re cently completed pr oje ct as an e xampl e. The e xample case was the de velopment of a fl exible UV cure d coating/sealant deve lopme nt for food packagi ng*. *3 pate nts: US20110210163 | US20110211778 | EP2361761A1
