The guidelines for infection control and universal precautions Unit Two Workbook Assignment Working in the health care industry gives a person a lot to think about in a course of one day. One of the main things is how to protect you from getting or spreading diseases. This is where knowing the guideline for infection control and what the universal precautions come into view. When working in the healthcare field or really any occupation that involves handling something that maybe contaminate with blood or fluids One of the rules to go by is if you don’t know where it’s been or what is on it consider it contaminated. The next are the fundamentals of protection they are: Hand washing; washing your hands may seem silly and easy to do, but if your intent is to stop the spread of infection hand washing is an important step and has to be done right. Wash with soap and warm water from the wrist down and each finger separately scrub under the finger nails as well wash your hands for 10 minutes to do a thorough job. When rinsing start from the top of the wrist and let the water flow down (do not allow it to trickle up to your elbow) over your hand and down your fingers and off the tips of your fingers. Then when you dry your hands using a paper towel dry from the top of the wrist down using one paper towel per hand, use the towel to turn off the water and open doors. The next thing to do is remember to put barriers up between you and anything that might be contaminated. To do this use protective equipment; gloves, gown, masks goggles. Also remember new protective gear for every patient. Needle sticks are important to report because get accidently stuck with a needle that could have been used on someone this is infected could have spread that infection to you. Reporting it as soon as it happens let know you quicker so if you Were infected get treatment faster. When disposing of the needles use a sharps container and do not recap needles. Clean all mouthpieces and resuscitation bags, because of all of the bacteria in the mouth and fluids. Using the proper method for decontamination stops the spread of diseases.

To pick up blood spill use paper towels, then wash the contaminated area with soap and water, then disinfectant usually water and bleach ratio of 1: 10
