UME operates under the auspices of TÜBITAK (Scientific and Technological Research Council of Turkey). 1982 Efforts to establish a modern metrology institute in Turkey

UME in General Mission To establish uniformity and reliability in measurements through the development, maintenance, dissemination and improvement of internationally accepted national reference measurement standards and techniques for the purpose of contributing to the nation’s quality of life and economic competitiveness. Vision To become a Center of Excellence and Leader in the world of metrology .

Main Tasks •

To establish and maintain national measurement reference standards in accordance with the definition of base and derived SI Units



To ensure the traceability of national measurement reference standards to international standards



To establish a national measurement system and provide services to the laboratories within this system in terms of calibration, training, consultancy and other mechanisms

Main Tasks •

To contribute to research and development in the area of measurement techniques, calibration and basic metrology at an international level



To increase the quality of production in Turkey by providing the measurement infrastructure through the national measurement system



To represent Turkey at an international level in the field of metrology

• Participation in the activities of 11 EURAMET TCs • Partnership in 56 EURAMET projects in all subject fields except Ionizing Radiation

• UME is a participant in iMERA project • Partnership in EMRP • UME Researcher chairs EURAMET TC AUV 19

UME at International Arena • Membership in CIPM CCs • UME is full member in 4 CCs under CIPM CCL CCT CCPR CCAUV and observer 4 other CCs

• Activities within IMEKO – Participation in the regular IMEKO’s General Assemblies – Contribution to the IMEKO World Congresses – Membership in “9” IMEKO TCs 20

UME at International Arena Membership in EURACHEM • Regular participation in EURACHEM activities • EURACHEM GA and few satellite workshops were hosted by UME in May 2006 • The main subjects discussed at the workshops were related to the organization of PTs and evaluation of uncertainty in chemical measurements
