he LG Sonic® solution consists of different devices, which are all made to fit it’s own purpose. Although all LG Sonic® devices have different strengths and are made for different appliances, the technique relies on the same basis.

he ultrasound waves are produced in our electrical box. Our LG Sonic® transducer emits sound waves through the water in a radius of nearly 180°. Algae, within the range of the transducer, will start oscillating at the frequencies of the sound waves. When brought in resonance an algal cell will not be able to sustain some compartments within the cell, these effected compartments can damage or even rupture, causing severe stress to the algal cell. The exact reaction of an algal cell to ultrasound depends on the type of algae. A very common differentiation between algae is between green algae and blue-green algae, also known as cyanobacteria.

reen algae share many characteristics with plant cells. As in plants, green algae posses a vacuole surrounded by a tonoplast, a cell membrane attached to a cell wall and chlorophyll, in charge of photosynthesis. As an effect of ultrasound, the tonoplast of green algae can rupture, releasing the contents of the vacuole to the inner cell. Besides this, the adhesion of the cell membrane and the cell wall can damage.

lue-green algae are in fact one of the oldest bacteria. These bacteria share some characteristics with a plant cell as well. For example, the capability to produce energy by absorbing light, called photosynthesis. Blue-green algae are capable of travelling through the water vertically due to their possession of gas-vesicles. The ultrasound waves from the LG Sonic® rupture these gas vesicles, making the blue-green algae sink to the bottom and possibly die by lack of (sun)light.

Cooling Towers The formation of algae, biofilm and the occurrence of high bacterial concentrations are a concern for the treatment of a cooling tower. Algae grow in the cooling tower itself and on the grids. In addition to micro-organisms and biofilm, they reduce the efficiency of the cooling tower. Furthermore, the risk of spreading Legionella is a serious factor to be reckoned with. Besides reducing algal growth efficiently, the LG Sonic® solution has also proven to reduce bacterial concentrations and the formation of biofilm.

Wastewater is any water that has suffered in quality by human intervention. Often, wastewater is treated for re-use as drinking water or for other purposes. As high levels of nutrition are available in these waters, algae can grow to high concentrations. Also the growth of other micro-organisms such as bacteria can increase drastically. Besides fighting the algae, the LG Sonic® solution provides an additional method for the reduction of Nitrates, sulphates, phosphates and many other components. Due to the reductions of these components, the LG Sonic® solution has already proven it’s effectiveness in waste water treatment.

Water used for irrigation contains, whether naturally or after reclaiming it from waste water, high levels of nutrients. These are beneficial to the plants watered, but also to the growth and bloom of algae. The algae can clog the irrigation system and spread over the irrigated area. LG Sonic® removes algae on an efficient and environmentally friendly basis where traditional methods are either insufficient, cumbersome, environmentally unfriendly or all of these.
Aquaculture Aquaculture, or aqua farming, is the cultivation of aquatic organisms, such as fish or shrimps, in a controlled environment. When this happens in a closed water container, algae may occur that pollute the water and damage the organisms grown. By inhibiting algal growth, the LG Sonic® solution establishes a healthier water quality in fish ponds which makes it possible to reach a higher biomass of the fish.

A swimming pool should be clear and look fresh. Algae colour the water green and can become a health risk to its owner because of the toxin production of some blue-green algae. The usage of chlorine in a swimming pool removes the algae but has its own health risks. (Fish) ponds Ponds, whether man-made or all natural, are characterized by stagnant water. Where water doesn't move, algae may occur. The LG Sonic® Pool uses ultrasound emissions to inhibit algal growth that exists in swimming pools, on an environmentally friendly basis. The LG Sonic® Pool can reduce chlorine treatment in swimming pools, often with 40 to 60%.
