Red-hot teams Ateneo de Manila University and University of Sto. Tomas stake their winning streaks on Wednesday at 4:00 p.m. in their explosive rematch to open the second round of the UAAP Season 81 women’s volleyball tournament at the FilOil Flying V Centre in San Juan. The Lady Eagles are currently on an amazing six-game romp after opening the season with a four-set loss at the hands of archrival and three-time defending champion De La Salle University. Ateneo holds the solo top spot with a 6-1 win-loss record with UST and DLSU behind with 5-2 slates. The Lady Eagles closed the first round with a 23-25, 25-17, 25-23, 25-17, win over rookie-laden National University. Ateneo hopes to complete an elims head-to-head sweep of the Tigresses, which the Lady Eagles defeated, 25-21, 2518, 16-25, 25-22, in the first round. The Katipunan-based squad will pin its hopes on Kat Tolentino, Ponggay Gaston, Maddie Madayag and Bea De Leon. Meanwhile, UST is looking to extend its winning streak to four and exact revenge on a squad that it last beat back in second round of Season 74. The Tigresses are on a 14game head-to-head losing slump against the Lady Eagles starting from Season 74 Final Four. Sisi Rondina and rookie Eya Laure will lead the Tigresses’ charge.
