Trend “Inquilab Zindabad!”… The Lahore jail reverberated with this slogan on March 23rd, 1931. It was the day when the British officials were lucky enough to witness the Indian revolutionaries going to the gallows with a flashing smile on their face. These revolutionaries were none other than Bhagat Singh, Sukhdev, and Rajguru. They were convicted for murdering a British official by name Saunders who was mistaken for the identity of Scott who was their actual target and a cruel and violent officer who was responsible for the death of Lala Lajpat Rai during a protest against the Simon Commission. On March 23, 1931, when the final go came, the jailer of Lahore central jail summoned Bhagat Singh. The legend was calmly reading a biography on Lenin which proves his determination and also his thirst to die as a knowledgeable person as far as possible. If we go through the life of this revolutionary, a cold chill runs down the spine. We start thinking, and perhaps even doubt, if a person can indulge himself in such adventurous and inspiring activities in a very short duration of time. Surprisingly, Bhagat Singh’s active political life lasted only for a period of seven years! IN this short duration he had become a parallel to Mahatma Gandhi. The trend represented by Bhagat Singh was uncompromising. His vision was to make India a socialist country and to account for the same he changed Hindustan Republican Association (HRA) to Hindustan Socialist Republican Association (HSRA) The uncompromising trend led by bhagat Singh, Chandrashekhar Azad and on the other side by Netaji, for the first time raised a demand for Total Independence. Inquilab Zindabad (Long Live revolution) slogan reached the peak of popularity. The following statements were made regarding revolution. “By revolution we mean that the present order of things, which is based on a manifest of injustice, must change and we mean the ultimate establishment
of an order of society in which the sovereignty of the proletariat should be recognized and world federation should redeem humanity from the bondage of Capitalism and misery of imperial wars. For these ideals, and this faith, we shall welcome any suffering too, which we may be condemned. At the altar of the revolution we have brought our youth as an immense force, for no sacrifice is too great for so magnificent a cause,” To know the depth of involvement of a person in an activity and the associated seriousness, we need to lend an ear to his friends. One of his comrades, Mr. Shiv Verma has stated about the behavior of Bhagat Singh as a student during his college life. His statement goes this way-“I haven’t seen him without lots of books under his arm. He did not have any sense of dressing sometimes he even wore torn clothes. He even thrust few books in the torn pockets of his dress. He and Sukhdev sometimes used to come to our secret place at Agra. Even then he used to carry books. And both of them used to discuss for hours. The topics of discussion would generally be the programmes of Naujawan Bharat Sabha, working class conditions, policies of Punjab Congress and its activities.” “The lamp extinguished but left a light which is expected to provide an enlightened path for generations.” The purpose of this article is to enlighten the ones who read it, about the fact that this year that is from 27th September 2006 to 27th September 2007 is considered as the birth centenary of Shaheed Bhagat Singh. It’s responsibility of the young guns of India to keep Bhagat Singh alive, in our hearts, in our minds and in practice by fighting for the emancipation of the society. We should not compromise on any kind of injustice and organize ourselves on the path to this idea. It is up to us to take up the responsibility and make the great leader’s dreams come true. We can achieve that by keeping up the trend that they set up
There was a man taking a morning walk at the beach. He saw that along with the morning tide came hundreds of starfish and when the tide receded, they were left behind and with the morning sun rays. They would die, the tide was fresh and the starfish were alive. The man took a few steps, picked one and threw it into the water. He did that repeatedly. Right behind him there was another person who couldn’t understand
what this man was doing. He caught up with him and asked, “What are you doing?” This man did not reply, took two more steps, picked up another one, threw it into the water, and said, “It makes a difference to this one.”
