As an Emergency Services worker there are required trainings that you must attend. This helps you become a better representative for the chapter and gives you an understanding of what the American Red Cross can assist clients with. As a Disaster Action Team (DAT) member you will be required to take a minimum of the following trainings at no cost to you: 1. Introduction to Disaster Services, self taught through web access http://www2.redcross.org/flash/course01_v01 (move your mouse arrow over the link) Print out the last page of the on-line course and bring it with you to Class #2 2. Fulfilling Our Mission 3. Mass Care Overview. (Can be self taught but better in class room setting). These next classes may not occur in this exact order. . . . . 4. Client Casework: Providing Emergency Assistance approx. 8 hours (1 day class) 5. Shelter Operations and Shelter Simulation also approx 8 hours 6. DAT Orientation about 1-2 hours 7. First Aid and CPR (Through Health & Safety, be sure to tell them you are a Disaster volunteer) To sign up for classes you may call the chapter at 273-1900 and ask for Gregg. You may also email me at: Gregg Cotterill, Director of Emergency Services [email protected] When you sign up for a class please be sure to include your phone number in the event the class is canceled. If you find that you cannot attend please be sure to let us know. Each class has a different minimum & maximum attendance requirement. Therefore if we do not reach a minimum the class may be canceled. It is very important that you enroll to ensure the instructor will have enough class room materials for each participant. It is important that if you are interested in taking a class, call to sign up. First to be sure we have enough materials and second if the class gets canceled or moved we would be able to notify you. We make every effort to remind individuals that have signed up but some times this is not possible. A couple of the ways we remind individuals is through e mail or a phone call. If you do not see a course/class listed that you may be interested in, please call us. We will be setting another course schedule for July through December 2009. We will take any and all suggestions for trainings. Thank you, Emergency Services Department
