What is Organization  When two or more people get together and agree to coordinate their activities in order to achieve their common goals, an organization has been born.  An effective organizational structure shall facilitate working relationships between various entities in the organization and may improve the working efficiency within the organizational units. Organization shall retain a set order and control to enable monitoring the processes. Organization shall support command for coping with a mix of orders and a change of conditions while 2 performing work

Organization Structure We have decided to set up an organization which is based on the Staff Organization type.

Target Inputs  Bajaj , Type175 CC engine, CNG Three wheeler – 500 numbers  Auto rickshaw drivers – 500  Skills development training on driving to be facilitated

About Mascot  Mascot means ‘Lucky Charm’.  The Mascot Transportation Organization (MTO) is charged with the task of providing safe and environmentally sound transportation system to public.  The main aim of Mascot is to transport to a large category of middle level income earners and provide employment in form of drivers. 5

Facilities provided by Mascot  "We want to encourage people to go for public transport. The MTO Rickshaw will offer services like call-on-board, newspapers, bottled water and music .  "We have worked out a unique color scheme for the vehicles as well as uniforms for the drivers, who will double up as tourist guides. The drivers will become ambassadors of the city,"

 People will take pride in travelling by a rickshaw because of the premium attached to it, by MTO.

Research  The research done for the set up of organization ‘Mascot’ is as follow: The Rickshaw Bank’s average monthly repayment rate is 92%.  In 2007, 460 Rickshaw Pullers benefited directly and 2,400 people (dependant family members) indirectly.  Rickshaw production unit provides employment to youth. 7

Objectives of Mascot  A safe and secure system, where people are not repelled by their fear of accident or crime.  A system that provides optimal value for money.  A system that meets the needs of the economy.  To strive continuously to maintain the leadership of the three wheeler industry by modernization, expansion and establishment of wide and efficient marketing network.  An integrated and coordinated transport system and related sector of Organizations. 9

Contd….  An accountable system and sector, which are transparent and open to public scrutiny and legal appeals.  An active, healthy system that promotes people’s health and well-being.  A system that maximizes social equity, fairness, accessibility and social inclusiveness to return the greatest possible good to the community. 10

Vision To set up any organization it is necessary for organization to have clear vision. The vision of the organization is to formulate & implement policies for commercial transport by working together so as to lead the Baroda in providing a transportation infrastructure and transportation services for the 21st century that deliver new economic opportunities. 11

Mission Once the vision is completed it is necessary to set the mission of the organization.  ‘ To provide safe, eco-friendly, cost effective , environmentally sound , fiscally responsible and efficient mode of transportation through well integrated, multimodal transport system to provide a safe, transportation system that delivers economic opportunity and enhances the quality of life in Baroda.’ 12

Values  Excellent public service.  Community involvement. A safe, reliable, and well-maintained transportation system.  A diverse and inclusive workforce.  Stewardship of the financial, physical and human resources that we manage on behalf of the public. A collaborative approach that fosters communication, partnerships, and teamwork, both inside and outside our organization. 13

Strategic Goals of Mascot  Once the mission and vision are clear then organization must set up the goals to achieve success.  The strategic goals of Mascot Transportation Organization are as follow:3. Safe 4. Access 5. Economic 6. Opportunity 14

Strategic plans  In conjunction with the Organization’s Vision and Mission Statement, MTO has adopted four major goals and a set of objectives by which the MTO plans to meet these goals. The Strategic Plan identified the following four major goals: 2. Improve Mobility and Access. 3. Deliver Economic Opportunities. 4. ContinuallyImproveOrganizationalPerformance. • Strength Customer and Stake holder Relationship. 15

Planning Factors  MTO strategies that address seven planning factors as follow: • Support economic vitality. • Increase safety and security for users. • Increase accessibility and mobility for people and freight. • Protect and enhance the environment and improve the quality of life. • Enhance the integration and connectivity of the transportation system, across and between modes for people and freight. • Promote efficient system management and operation. • Emphasize the preservation of the existing transportation system. 16
