GAUGE 20 sts = 4”; 28 rows = 4” in St st on size 8 needles TO SAVE TIME, TAKE TIME TO CHECK GAUGE

BACK With smaller needles, using CC, cast on 102(106-114-118-126-138) sts. Ribbing: Row 1 (RS): K2, * p2, k2, rep from * across. Row 2: P2, * k2, p2, rep from * across. Rep these 2 rows until piece measures 3 1/2” from beg, end on RS. Change to larger needles and MC and p the next row, dec 18(18-20-20-18-20) sts evenly spaced across – 84(88-94-98-108-118) sts. Work even in St st until piece measures 4” from beg, end on WS. Dec 1 st each end of next row, then every 1” 3 times more – 76(80-86-90-100-110) sts.

Work even until

1/2” 3 times more – 84(88-94-98-108-118) sts. Work even until piece measures 12” from beg, end on WS. Shape Armholes: Bind off 4(6-7-6-9-9) sts at beg of the next 2 rows – 76(76-8086-90-100) sts. Dec 1 st at each armhole edge every RS row 10(10-10-10-10-12) times – 56(56-60-66-70-76) sts. Work even until armholes measure 7(7-7 1/2-8-8 1/2-9)”, end on WS. Bind off.

LEFT FRONT With smaller needles, using CC, cast on 46(50-50-54-58-66) sts. Work in ribbing same as back for 3 1/2”, end on RS. Change to larger needles and MC and p the next row, dec 8(10-8-8-8-10) sts evenly spaced across – 38(40-42-46-50-56) sts. Work even in St st until piece measures 4” from beg, end on WS. Shape side edge same as back by working decs, then incs at beg of RS rows. AT THE SAME TIME, when piece measures 5 1/2” from beg (before all decs have been completed), end on WS. Shape V-Neck: Dec Row (RS): Work to last 2 sts, k2 tog. Rep this dec every 3/4” 15(15-14-17-15-16) times. When piece measures 12” from beg (before all neck decs have been completed), end on WS. Continuing to work neck decs, shape armhole same as back. When all neck and armhole decs have been completed, work even on 8(8-10-12-15-18) sts until armhole measures 7(7-7 1/2-8-8 1/2-9)”, end on WS. Bind off.

RIGHT FRONT Work to correspond to left front, reversing all shaping. Work side decs and incs on body at end of RS rows. Work neck decs at beg of RS rows as k2, SSK. Bind off for armhole and shoulder on WS. Work armhole decs at end of RS rows.

FINISHING Sew shoulder seams. Left Front/Neckband: With smaller needles, using CC, cast on 11 sts. Row 1 (RS): K2, (p2, k2) twice, p1. Row 2: K1, (p2, k2) twice, p2. Rep these 2 rows until band, when slightly stretched, reaches from lower left front edge to center back neck, end on WS. Bind off. Pin inner edge of band to left front edge, left front neck edge and left back neck edge, ending at center back neck. Sew band in place. Right Front/Neckband: With smaller needles, using CC, cast on 11 sts. Row 1 (RS): P1, (k2, p2) twice, k2.

Row 2: P2, (k2, p2) twice, k1. Rep these 2 rows until band reaches from lower right front edge to 1/2” below beg of neck shaping, end on WS. Buttonhole Row (RS): P1, k2, p2, k2 tog, yo, p2, k2. Complete band to correspond to left frontband. Pin inner edge of band to right front edge, right front neck edge and right back neck edge, ending at center back neck. Sew band in place. Sew edges of bands tog at center back neck. Sew side seams. Front/Neck Edging: With RS facing, using crochet hook and CC, beg at lower right front edge, work in sc along front and neck edges of front/neckbands to lower edge of left front, having a multiple of 4 + 1 sc’s. Fasten off. Row 2: With RS facing, using crochet hook, join CC with a sl st in first st at lower right front. Sc in same st as sl st, ch 1, skip 1 sc, * work (dc, ch 1, dc, ch 1, dc) all in next sc, ch 1, skip 1 sc, sc in next sc, rep from * across. Fasten off. Armhole Edging: With RS facing, using crochet hook and CC, beg at side seam, work in sc around entire armhole edge, having a multiple of 4 sc’s, join with a sl st in first sc. Rnd 2: Ch 1, sc in first sc, ch 1, skip 1 sc, * work (dc, ch 1, dc, ch 1, dc) all in next sc, ch 1, skip 1 sc, sc in next sc, rep from * around, end last rep by joining with sl st in ch-1. Fasten off. Sew on button.
