News First of several planned competitions are Underway Two major contests have already been started in conjunction with the sesquicentennial: the Beard Contest and the Dress Contest. Both contests began in the winter and are still open to new participants. The Beard Contest was kicked off with a registration night in January during which several gentlemen subjected themselves to close scrutiny by judges Kristi Bush, Debbie McLoughlin, Julie Salisbury and Heather Wolf. They were thorough but didn’t take themselves too seriously. The Dress Contest is also underway with participants entering dresses in both a homemade and a store purchased category. Winners will be awarded excellent prizes, but in the end both contests are designed to be a fun way to celebrate Shepherd’s Sesquicentennial. Other competitions during Sesquicentennial weekend include a tractor pull, lawn tractor pull, and a horse pull.
