THE ROLE OF RELIGION IN THE TEACHING AND LEARNING OF MATHEMATICS
Taken from an article from a website: “Yes, I do teach [Islam] to my friends’ daughters and some boys who haven’t reached puberty and are under the age of 12. I’m not afraid of this, because I don’t teach them to do drugs or other haram things or disobey their parents. I teach them to respect their parents, be afraid of Allah and other sinful activities,” Fatima says.
Role of religion in teaching particularly in Mathematics is Not to teach children to do bad things (haram things, disobeying parents, taking drugs, smoking and so on) To help children become better (do good things, respect parents and others and so on) As a Muslim Darussalam has
country, Brunei an educational
Following procedures In our religion (Islam), we will follow procedures in most of the thing we do. For example in doing prayer (‘salah’), ablution (‘wudhu’), performing ‘Haj’ as in performing ‘Tawaf”, and more. For example in ‘Ablution”. There are to follow:

Islamic Art (Design) The role of religion (Islam) to Islamic design is to introduce children to different form of shapes, designs and colours. Muslims do not draw human figures or animals because they have been taught to worship only God. Their art work is made up of flowers and richly patterned shapes based on geometrical design.
Role of Islam in counting Counting is the basic knowledge when learning Mathematics especially to children. The role of Islam religion is that it provides the basic learning for counting to children.
Pupils can count and list how many pillar of Islam. (5 pillar of Islam) They can also count: •The number of prayer in a day •The number of raka’at in each prayer •The number of Islamic month •The number of Allah’s names •The number of prophets •The number of days in Ramadan referring to the Islamic calender •The number of beads a ‘subha’ has •And more! Students can also tell: •What is the first Islamic month, the second and so on •Who is the first prophet, and who is the last
Measuring The role of religion in mathematical measuring is that pupils are taught to measure fairly. Islam measure aurat: -Men’s aurat is the area between their navel (belly button) to their knees. -Women’s aurat are the whole body except for their face and palm (hand).
Time Religion can take part in teaching pupils to measure the time and length of salah (prayer). Pupils can know when does each prayer start. Teacher can let pupils to explore and measure when each prayer starts and ends particularly for ‘zuhur’ and ‘asar’.
Locating Teacher can have pupils to experience how to locate something. We use various forms to locate including maps, figures, charts and more. Religion can also play role in locating.
