Workshops
Once again The Foundation Academy students performed wonderfully at this year’s spring concert. The singing , dancing, and music was a testament to each student’s desire to perform, and truly initiated this year’s “Spring Fever”. We would like to thank all the students that participated in or helped with the show. A special thank you to Madaline Hill, Todd Tears, Walter Hill and Rachael Miller for all of the effort on their behalf.
What is my child’s (or for that matter, My) Temperament?
Ever wonder why your child acts the way he/she does sometimes? Or why you can’t get them to clean their room? Or play with the kids down the street? They may have inherited their habits and decisions from you. Do you even know your own temperament, and why you do the things you do? God gave you your temperament for a reason. This is an invaluable workshop where you can learn about yourself and your child, and how you can become a more effective parent and greater servant of God.
The King Who Became A Pauper! Even though His life was seemingly miserable, He only spoke of love and joy. And those that were around him were influenced because they saw that joy in his heart and mouth daily. He was known as the greatest of kings. He had everything at his fingertips. With a snap he would call servants, control astral schedules, even touch the edge of time itself. And then, with that same snap of his fingers, he had nothing. Could a King lose everything in one instant? Certainly, but only by choice. And he chose to give up everything. It must take the hardest of resolves; the greatest of bravery, to one moment have everything and the next to choose to have nothing. From that moment on he never owned a bed. He slept on a borrowed mattress or the hard earth, and he could only camp wherever he was, because he had nowhere to go. The only time he had transportation was when he borrowed a donkey to ride into town once. And his entire existence was dependent on handouts from the kindness of people that would eventually kill him. He was often so hungry he ate only the grain he could find on the ground, or the fruit from an abandoned tree. He never had a home of his own, and he felt the cold, and the rain, and the solace of no companionship. He was always misunderstood, first by his immediate family and then by his closest friends. He was driven out of his own hometown, and if the people had their way, he would have been thrown off a cliff, but he was too tough for them to get a good enough grip. He was called a lunatic. People tried to lynch him. His brothers and sisters tried to confine him to the house so he wouldn’t embarrass them. Others wanted entertainment from him, a show, healings, miracles, and when they weren’t happy with his presentation, they decided to kill him. And when they finally got their wish, he had no funeral, he was placed in a buried grave, and there was no money to even anoint his body. Yet he was feared even in death. His mark on history has never been erased. His words have never been forgotten or silenced. Whenever he is mentioned by name, the room hushes, the skeptics whisper, and the conversation changes. Even when his name is called out as a curse, his mark is made known. He is listened to and studied by the rich, the poor, every creed, every color, ever race, and every station. He is known worldwide and respected by every religion, and by every heart.
working to feed the homeless; cleaning the streets, the beach, and spreading awareness of the effects of littering; shopping and cooking for terminally ill children and their families; creating a public art opportunity to be done by the public; creating a music event, proceeds of which will support music education in a local public elementary school.

Inside the Exhibitions By Miss Angie This year I was given the opportunity to judge the middle school, and ninth and tenth grade exhibitions. To be honest I hadn’t a clue as to what to expect. Working with the elementary for two years I have been blessed in a surrounding of make-believe and Disney Channel imitators. It’s pretty easy to get comfortable in that mind set. Although the fifth and sixth grade girls are slowly developing into the teens we all assume they will become, they’re not as immersed in the “teen world culture” as I thought.
Time Is Running Out Parents and students who have not already registered for the 2008 - 2009 school year need to do so as soon as possible. Registration is now available online at: http://www.foundationacademy.com/Application/foundation_academy.htm
Two of the topics covered by the three presentations I judged were depression and peer pressure. I was taken back by the sorrow that filled the percentages of survey takers. I was also stunned by the consensus of all students involved thinking that the majority of teens now struggle daily with negative thoughts and pessimistic attitudes. But what was most surprising was the concern and empathy these teens had for their peers. Each group of presenters not only exemplified their anxiety in a skit or video, and statistics during their presentations, but after the presentations were over the students answered questions with heart-felt concern and personal experience.
Applications are also available at the school office.
Video’s Available Parents and students who would like to have DVD’s of any of The Foundation Academy’s Performing Arts productions should contact Gail Faucette at 904-241-3515.
This vision of unity from our teens reminds me of the verse Isaiah 40:30-31, Even youth grow tired and weary, young men stumble and fall, but those who trust in the Lord will renew their strength; they will mount up on wings like eagles, they will run and not be weary, they will walk and not be faint. As teachers and guardians of these teens submerged in different levels of sorrow, depression and temptation we need to remind them and ourselves of the power God can and will instill in all of us. Through Christ we can do all things, including overriding the weight of such heavy emotions. We need each other.
Korean Students Visit Three students from the HODORI, The Korean National Demonstration Team, visited our school recently. They were part of a 39 member team touring several states exhibiting their Tae Kwon Do skills. The students attended class and were amazed at the freedom our students were allowed. Most members of the team spoke limited English and were housed in local family homes during their stay. They enjoyed their stay and look forward to returning for another visit soon.

From watching the presentations I learned of a generation that holds hope in and courage for each other. I learned of a movement our youth are going through, a movement of understanding and support. What a blessing to see the hearts and minds of our students working together to unravel troubles of their generation. How remarkable for The Foundation Academy to provide opportunities for our future leaders to research more about the people they will one day manage.
