• Matter exist as solids, liquids or gases. • Matter expands when heated. a) When solids, liquids and gases are heated, their volumes increase. b) They become bigger. This increase in volume is called expansion. • The effect of heat on matter : a) Solids expand when heated, and contract when cooled. b) Liquids expands when heated, and contract cooled. c) Gases expand when heated, and contract when cooled.
