The American Bison By Michael Gates The American Bison is one of the most well-known endangered species from Kansas. The American Bison is 6-6.5 feet tall, and 10-12.5 feet in length, it is 900-2,000 lbs, the males tend to be much larger than the females. Their lifespan is 18-22 years long in the wild, and over 30 years in captivity. In the 1800’s is when this majestic beast almost disappeared from this great country. The reason is, because we would over hunt them, and wouldn’t let them recover. Now, the American Bison is slowly recovering from its massive impact. Thanks to the bison reserves, this majestic animal will soon be restored to its natural habitat.
