PRESS RELEASE— IMMEDIATE CONSIDERATION

New book predicts increased extremist and terrorist violence. Author, Dr. James F. Pastor, a nationally recognized authority on public safety and security, presents cutting edge analysis of terrorism and its affects on policing and American society.   Contact: [email protected] Phone: 312-423-6700 www.securelaw.info The relative calm since 9/11 will not be sustainable, as recent events indicate. In the past few weeks, terrorist plots have been uncovered in Springfield, Dallas, Denver/New York, and North Carolina. News reports related to the Fort Hood tragedy manifest that the motivation for the shootings may be based on an Islamist worldview. Each of the individuals involved resided in the U.S., but their origin may stem from a larger worldwide movement. In any case, the need for continued vigilance and awareness is clear. Dr. James Pastor, Ph.D., J.D., draws on three decades of experience fighting on the front lines against domestic terrorism to identify key indicators that point to an increase in extremist violence and terrorism. In his new book, Terrorism and Public Safety Policing: Implications for the Obama Presidency, he explores the “perfect storm” of extremist ideologies coming together to challenge the current state of public safety. The book is especially timely and prescient in light of the aforementioned events. These—and those that will take place in the future, will change our perceptions of public safety. The book identifies troublesome trends and potential vulnerabilities. Dr. Pastor gives a pragmatic view of what is really happening in our world and articulates some public policy triggers that may result in increased violence. These challenges will force policy makers, police chiefs, public administrators, and security professionals to rethink their approach to policing the streets of America. In doing so, Pastor introduces a new model of policing – Public Safety Policing – that offers an organized and proactive response as well as possible solutions to the new breed of problems we will face. The author provides the vision to anticipate changes on the horizon, and supplies strategies and tools needed to address them effectively. About the Author Dr. Pastor is president of SecureLaw Ltd., a Chicago based public safety and security services firm. He is also an associate professor of Public Safety at Calumet College of St. Joseph, and an adjunct instructor at the International Law Enforcement Academy--where he teaches security technology to police officials throughout the world. Dr. Pastor has been interviewed regarding security issues on WGN and WLS radio, and with NBC 5, Comcast and Public Access cable TV stations as well as numerous print media. He formerly taught legal issues at Northwestern University’s Center for Public Safety, and legal & ethical issues in security management in the graduate program at Webster University. He is also author of two previous books, Security Law & Methods (2006), and The Privatization of Police in America (2003). Dr. Pastor consults, writes and speaks on a variety of public safety and security issues, including serving as an expert witness. Previously, he practiced law for 15 years, serving as legal counsel for two police unions and five security firms. Dr. Pastor began his career with the Chicago Police Department serving as a tactical police officer in the Gang Crime Enforcement Unit, and later as an Assistant Department Advocate dealing with police misconduct allegations, including hundreds of use of force cases.   SecureLaw Ltd. 65 West Jackson Blvd., #112 Chicago, IL. 60604-3598
