Materials:

Activity Sheet 1, red and blue colour pencils, writing paper.

Teacher:

Good afternoon, boys and girls! I have a question for you today. Look at yourself and your friends. Who can tell me what are you made of? Teacher waits and listens to the students' responses. Student: hair, skin, teeth nerves, bones…. Well, your answers are not wrong but think again what make up your hair, skin, teeth, nerves and bones. Teacher encourages the students. If necessary teacher can give a little hint by writing the letter "C" on the board. Students : cells That is right! You are made of cells. Every part of you - your bones, your muscles, your skin, your blood, your teeth, your hair - is made of cells. These cells are so tiny that you can only see them using a microscope. Teacher arranges some activity sheets on the teacher's table. Activity 1 I am going to start off today's lesson with a story. Now, stop whatever you are doing and put away all your books. I would like you to listen very carefully. With suspense music, teacher reads the following in an expressive manner. Two aliens, Nano and Piko were sent to Planet Earth to investigate the living things on earth. They have been observing you sitting under a tree through their machine. Teacher poses the following questions. They must be thinking……….. What would they observe about you and your structure? What would they observe about the tree? What are the similarities between you and the plant? Students may be eager to answer but teacher would listen to them and ask them to discuss in their groups and then present their thoughts. Now, you can work in groups and tell the class your group's answer. It would be interesting to share your ideas. Before that, I am going to put you into eight groups. As I move from student to student, each of you will number yourself starting with ONE till FIVE and remember your number. Teacher goes to a student and ask the student to say the number one, the next student say the number two and so on until the fifth student. When the teacher is near the sixth student, the student
