Morgan Bloyer Teaching Philosophy The purpose of physical education is to teach the whole student. Physical education gives students opportunities to learn about teamwork, health related fitness, emotional health, and physical activity. The goal is to provide students with the information and confidence to be able to obtain a healthy and active lifestyle on their own. The exposure of different activities whether this may be fitness, various sports, nutrition can provide the necessary tools to be physically active outside of the classroom while also finding enjoyment. With the use of the National Standards & Grade Level Outcomes for K-12 Physical Education I design my lesson plans to reach the whole student including the psychomotor, cognitive, and affective domain. The physical education classroom should be a safe and welcoming environment where students are comfortable to explore their interests. In a lot of cases life for young students can be very stressful being filled with all of the activities that they need to get done each day. I want the physical education classroom to be an area of the school where they can learn healthy ways to handle stress and how physical activity plays a part in it. I will do everything in my ability to help the students set and reach their goals through the use of various assessments. Through teacher, peer, and self assessments students will be able to view the progress to reach their goals. This also aids in my learning as well. I will be able to see the areas that need improvement and also what teaching methods work for the specific students. I believe that students play a very important role in what should be taught in the classroom. Students should be involved in the curriculum selection to further develop respect and communication. Being physically active just during school is not enough. Since the goal is to be active for a lifetime, I will provide students with opportunities to be physically active outside of class. This may mean offering points to students if they participate in outside sports, classes, or races. I hope to show all of my students my passion for physical education so that they can know that I care about the class and for them. At the end of the day it is always about the children and how to make a positive impact on their lives.
