TEACHING – THE NOBLEST PROFESSION By: Sherwin B. Zapatero “I am a teacher. I touch the life of my students. I touch their hearts. I touch their future”. And I believe that their future lies on me. For, nobody else but I as a teacher can patiently and bravely take the challenge of guiding them towards a brighter future. Teaching is not an easy task. The efforts and sacrifices that are put in this task make it difficult- or even too hard. The accomplishment of teaching comes only after a survival from the different challenges of life. But its endeavor to acquire success through the path of difficulties makes a teacher a greater and stronger person. For, no matter how difficult the task is, he will still remain steadfast as a deliverer of knowledge. Teaching is the noblest profession and it makes a teacher noble. He is noble because he does not only teach, but influence lives. His influence affects eternity, for he may come and go but his message remains eternally. A teacher does not only develop one’s potentials, but also builds up a character; a character that is well-
rounded and knowledgeable in this competitive world, a character that is imbued with good wisdom and right values, and a character that is able to make a better living. A teacher has many stems of task. Aside from his ultimate goal of molding the young minds into better citizens of tomorrow and various school obligations and responsibilities, he is called to reach out and serve the community where he belongs. As the saying goes “the future lies on the hands of a teacher”, not only the future of the children depends on him, but also the future of the nation. For, as an agent of education, he can make a great change for the progress of the nation. “Many are called but few are chosen”. And blessed is the teacher, for he is chosen to serve the world and make a difference.
