Standard 1 Element A Currently I am at level 1 of element A for standard 1, mainly due to being a student teacher. Once I am employed at my own school it will be easier to align my lessons to that district’s plan of instruction.
Element B I am at level 2 for element B because I have implemented lessons that connect to mathematics, literacy, and language development, but I need to improve on how strategically this is done in the classroom, and make sure that students are made aware of why and how art connects to other disciplines. Element C Due to my students not fully synthesizing information to make connections to other disciplines yet, I believe that I am at a level 3 for this element. More practice and experience on my part is needed to enable students to tap into deeper understanding and make connections between art and other aspects of life. Standard 2 Element A I am at level 2 for element A because I still struggle with disruptive behavior in the classroom sometimes and am constantly experimenting with new strategies to handle these issues. Element B Diversity and differences are very important to learn about in the classroom. Because of this I have reached level 3 of element B. Sometimes my students still have trouble respecting the
uniqueness of other students and I will need to continually work towards creating an inclusive and caring classroom. Element C I am at level 1 for element C, mostly because - again - I feel like I need to be a full-time teacher at my own school in order for me to fully implement and help support learning for students with special needs. I know a wide variety of adaptations, accomodations, and modifications to use in an art room; however, during my student teaching I haven’t been able to practice much other than learning more about IEPs and specific needs of certain students. Element D I am at level 1 for element D. Once starting as a full-time teacher, I plan on having an art newsletter for parents and hopefully being able to bring in or go visit artists in the community to inspire learning in students. However, as a student teacher, for this element currently I am merely an observer. Standard 3 Element A I think that I am at level 3 for element A of Standard 3. I consider what age group I am teaching when planning lessons to take into account their specific needs and growth, and I collaborate with coworkers who have more experience than I do in order to generate ideas and problem solve issues I encounter. I don’t think I have reached level 4 yet just because I have not had adequate time to form trusting relationships with students where they come to me to advocate for their learning needs. I think a stable employment at a single school will enable me to reach level 4. Element B I believe that I am at level 2 for element B because I don’t think I model how to incorporate feedback to improve learning for students. I heavily consider how I assess students and gather data during my lessons, but I need to work on how I explain that information to students. Element C I am at level 3 because I take into account available technology and try to incorporate it into my lessons to help support student learning and collaboration. I need to improve on student’s ethical behavior when using technology in the classroom and find a method to keep them accountable. Element D I’m at level 4. I still need to work on students using the data they collect and learn from to construct logical arguments. Element E
I believe that I am at level 3 for element E. To improve I would need to give students support and help where needed in order to facilitate proper collaboration and interaction within groups. Element F I think that I am at level 2; I need to work on teaching my students how to articulate their ideas in a clear and efficient manner in the classroom. Standard 4 Element A I believe that I am at level 3 for element A because I always make sure to keep as much information confidential as possible while in a professional setting, I make sure my behavior models for students what a respectful and responsible individual is, and I work to promote a safe and caring classroom environment. I don’t think that I am at level 4 yet because, due to being a new teacher, I am somewhat hesitant to promote the same caring and respectful among my coworkers and peers. As I grow as a teacher and gain confidence, I don’t think I will have any issue reaching level 4 for this element. Element B For the moment I am at level 1 for this element due to me still reflecting on and coming up with a professional development growth plan. As soon as I have a clear goal in mind I will continue to climb up levels within this element. Element C For element C I believe that I am at a level 3. I maintain productive and respectful relationships with my coworkers, adapt quickly to changing environments both in the classroom and school, and collaborate with my coworkers to help adapt to these changing environments in a quick and efficient manner. However, I don’t think I have yet reached the level 4 goal of contributing to school improvement planning efforts; this is mainly due to still being at the student teaching phase and not yet being employed at a school. I feel this goal will be reached once I have a school to contribute my efforts to. Element D Right now for element D on Standard 4, I am only at level 1. Again, this is due to me being a student teacher and not having my own school yet. I do attend meetings for committees that my cooperating teachers are a part of, but only as an observer. This will change once I am employed at a school of my own and I can be an active participant.
