5.

Title, number of pages and language(s) of the notified document: Application A602 – Extraneous Residue Limit (Paradichlorobenzene) (121 pages, in English).

6.

Description of content: Purpose of Application A602 is to include an extraneous residue limit of 0.1 mg/kg for paradichlorobenzene (1,4-dichlorobenzene) in honey for five years.

7.

Objective and rationale, including the nature of urgent problems where applicable: To incorporate a temporary extraneous residue limit to allow the sale of honey containing residues of paradichlorobenzene, provided that the residues do not exceed 0.1 mg/kg. The ERL for 1,4 - dichlorobenzene is being notified under the TBT Agreement because it is a limit to allow residues that are not a public health concern to be present in honey and unlike Maximum Residue Limits, are not associated with the contemporary use of an approved chemical product. It is therefore a technical issue and not a sanitary or phytosanitary measure. All Applications to vary the Australia New Zealand Food Standards Code, must be assessed in the context of the following objectives: (a) the protection of public health and safety; (b) the provision of adequate information relating to food to enable consumers to make informed choices; and (c) the prevention of misleading or deceptive conduct. . /.
