Talking Points for…talking The Problem: -The number 4 killer in the US—more than Breast Cancer, Aids, and Auto Accidents COMBINED -100,000 die every year from HAIs -“Super bugs” are becoming more difficult to kill 3 Separate Technologies: Air Purifier (Photo-Catalytic Biocide Reactor) Not an air filter No ozone >99% efficacy rate Broad Kill Spectrum—MRSA, VRE, VOCs, Bird Flu, TB, Anthrax… PHYSICAL KILL EPA & FDA registered as a class II medical device Utilizes “green technology” –safe for the environment Clinical and hospital tested Developed by U. of Georgia for NASA Anti-Microbial Protectant (Octadecylaminodimethyltrihydroxysilyl propyl ammonium chloride) Permanent biostatic bond with any surface--including textiles >97% efficacy rate Broad Kill Spectrum—MRSA, VRE, Bird Flu, Anthrax… PHYSICAL KILL EPA & FDA registered as a Medical grade Antiseptic Utilizes “green technology” –safe for the environment Clinical and hospital tested Developed by DOW Chemical for US Military High level Disinfectant (Eletrolocized Oxidative Water) >99% efficacy rate Broad Kill Spectrum—MRSA, VRE, TB, C.Dif, Bird Flu, Anthrax… PHYSICAL KILL EPA & FDA registered as a Medical grade high level disinfectant Utilizes “green technology” –safe for the environment Clinical and hospital tested

The Three Prong Solution: The disinfectant is a very powerful solution for high level disinfection in hightouch areas like door handles, light switches, patient bed rails, remotes, call buttons, toilets, medical equipment, and etc. However once the surface is disinfected and the product dries there is no residual killing effect. The surface can be recontaminated immediately. As the air continues to circulate it continues to move germs through the air and they can land and colonize on any surface. The disinfectant is produced in an on-site generator. It requires only salt, house water and a 110 power supply. Because the water is molecularly altered water there is no residue or buildup which creates a more easily cleaned surface.

The surface needs to be protected to prevent the bacteria and the bio-film from colonizing. The protectant does not kill everything so it needs the power of the EO Water technology to complete the kill spectrum as well as remove the bio burden. (As the protectant kills the bacteria it literally attracts and spears the germ. The carcasses of the germs can build-up and need to be removed via the normal cleaning process. Once the “spike” is cleaned it can continue to protect the surface.) The protectant can only be removed by abrasion. To ensure maximum effectiveness re-application every 90 days is recommended. Protectant applied to textiles need to be reapplied approximately every 50 washings (abrasion).

Though the disinfectant and the protectant provide an incredible barrier to a broad spectrum they cannot eliminate germs from the air. Germs that are transmitted through the air in droplet form like Pneumonia, TB, and the Influenza and many others. The air-purifier will constantly purify the air in any given space. It is about as loud as a computer fan, runs on any 110 socket and requires maintenance every six months (UV bulbs replacement).

Common Questions: If this is so great how come the industry has never heard of it? Actually the industry has heard about it. Each of the technologies has received both EPA and FDA approvals for use in healthcare and food preparation environments. Each of the technologies has been used separately in various hospitals. This is the first time they have been sued simultaneously to for infection control.

Does it really work? Each technology has been tested and proven in both labs and hospitals.

How come no one is using this? There are several hospitals currently using this technology however the hospital environment is very difficult for a new technology to penetrate due to the high level of regulation and

How did you come across these technologies? I heard about a carpet cleaning company that was using a byproduct of the disinfectant for a very effective cleaning process.

Can I get this any where else? This “three prong” approach is only available through PGS.

Who is using this technology now? …

How much is it? …

Is it safe? Yes. Each of the three technologies are EPA and FDA approved for use in healthcare as well as food preparation environments. Also each is a “green technology” meaning they cannot harm the environment.

Can I use it at home? Yes.

How do you use it? The disinfectant is used just like any disinfectant but it can be put into a spray bottle if needed. The air purifier just needs to be plugged into a 110 socket The protectant can be sprayed on or wiped on

How does it work? The disinfectant uses a EO water technology. The air purifier uses a stabilized ozone activated by UV light. The protectant uses a proprietary molecule of ammonium chloride. All of these technologies provide a physical kill.

What is MRSA, VRE, C. Dif.? MRSA, VREs, and C.Dif. are all examples of dangerous bacteria that are very common in all hospitals and resistant to antimicrobials and dininfectants.

Why doesn’t the acid water burn your skin? The pH of 2.4 is the same as coke & battery acid. It is the combination of acid,HOCI and ORP that provide such an immediate and physical kill. Human cells protect themselves using an extensive, highly effective group of protective agents and defense mechanisms referred to collectively as the Antioxidant Defense System (ADS). Bacteria, however, do not possess this ability.

Isn’t the water just diluted “bleach water” hypochlorous acid--HOCI? The main disinfectant ingredient in bleach is hypochlorite, where as our solutions are primarily hypochlorous acid. Hypochlorous acid is well established to be substantially more biocidal and safer than hypochlorite bleach, yet safe and nontoxic. How can the protectant be permanent? The molecule creates a biostatic bond to the surface it comes in contact with. A biostatic bond cannot be broken without abrasion or physical removal of the surface. The “spike” of the molecule attracts and then punctures the bacteria. Thus providing the physical kill.

How can I be involved (usually meaning what is the ticker symbol)? First buy quart of protectant for your home…

Won’t this compete with 3M, Eco-Lab, and other existing healthcare contracts? No, The services offered by Pure Guard Solutions/Services are unique and do not directly compete with existing products. There may be applications where the disinfectant will replace the existing product.

What is a physical kill? A bacteria will eventually mutate when introduced to a toxin becoming resistant like MRSA and so many others. A physical kill is absolute. The cell wall is ripped open. The bacteria is killed and cannot build an immunity to the method of kill.

How does a microbe become immune to a disinfectant? Slowly over several generations of being sick they learn to become stronger eventually becoming unaffected.

What do you do with the alkaline water? For our purposes the alkaline water is used as a neutral cleaner.

The Service: %%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%% What is the active antimicrobial agent in Sterilox solutions? The active ingredient in all of our solutions is hypochlorous acid (HOCl), a well known and well characterized biocidal agent, which is a critical chemical produced by the human body's natural immune system at near neutral pH to fight infection. How do Sterilox systems work? Sterilox has a patented technology installed in Sterilox and Aqualox generators that converts simple brine solution (salt and water) into hypochlorous acid, an effective clear liquid disinfectant and sanitizer. It is produced on-site and on-demand when required. What is the difference between Sterilox solutions and bleach? The main disinfectant ingredient in bleach is hypochlorite, where as Sterilox solutions are primarily hypochlorous acid. Hypochlorous acid is well established to be substantially more biocidal and safer than hypochlorite bleach, yet safe and non-toxic. What is the difference between Sterilox solutions and Acid Electrolyzed Water? Acid electrolyzed water is produced at low pH and is primarily composed of acidic chlorine in solution, a less effective yet more toxic solution.

How long can Sterilox solutions be stored? Hypochlorous acid is unstable and has a limited shelf life. Therefore, it can not be bottled and requires on site generation. Are Sterilox solutions nontoxic? Yes, the solutions produced by all Sterilox systems are completely safe for humans. How do Sterilox solutions kill bacteria if they are nontoxic? Sterilox hypochlorous acid reacts readily with a variety of microbial sub-cellular compounds, interferes with metabolic processes and kills individual bacterium exposed within milliseconds. In the human body, white blood cells naturally produce hypochlorous acid as a defense against disease and bacteria in the body. Human cells protect themselves against hypochlorous acid damage using a highly effective group of protective agents and defense mechanisms referred to collectively as the Antioxidant Defense System (ADS). @@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@ Sterilox systems generate hypochlorous acid (HOCI). HOCI is a well known and well characterized oxidant and is a critical chemical produced by the human body's natural immune system at a pH similar to the Sterilox Solutions to fight infection.

The Human Response When an invading pathogen or infection threatens a human cell, the body's immune system responds by destroying the pathogen before it can harm the cell. The invading pathogens are engulfed by white blood cells called neutrophils by the process of phagocytosis. Once engulfed inside the neutrophil cell, a pathogen is encapsulated by a phagosome, which generates HOCI as the final step of the Oxidative Burst Pathway, the centerpiece of the phagocytic killing mechanism. Large quantities of HOCI are released into the phagocytic vesicle to destroy the invading pathogen. During the Oxidative Burst Pathway, neutrophils use the naturally occurring NADPH oxidase enzyme complex which catalyses the conversion of oxygen into superoxide anion. Superoxide dismutase enzyme then converts superoxide and water to form hydrogen peroxide and hydroxyl radicals. The hydrogen peroxide then combines with chloride ions by the action of the enzyme myeloperoxidase to form hypochlorous acid

A. When a wound breaks human skin, it creates a gateway for harmful pathogens to invade human cells. B. Neutrophils, which are a type of white blood cell, live in human blood vessels. C. When pathogens invade a human cell, neutrophils travel to the infection site to destroy the invading pathogen. The first step in this process is engulfing the pathogen. D. Once the neutrophil has completely surrounded the pathogen, it produces an oxidant, hypochlorous acid (HOCI). HOCI is a biocide, meaning it kills organic material. Once produced by the neutrophil, it kills the bacteria almost instantly. Although HOCI is biocidal on pathogens or bacteria, it does not affect human cells. Human cells protect themselves using an extensive, highly effective group of protective agents and defense mechanisms referred to collectively as the Antioxidant Defense System (ADS). Bacteria, however, do not possess this ability.

The Sterilox Process Sterilox proprietary technology mimics the production by the human immune system of the body's natural anti-microbial by generating this substance, HOCI, which naturally protects the body from infection. HOCI is extremely effective at killing pathogens, such as bacteria, viruses and fungal spores, yet is safe and environmentally friendly. Thus, HOCI has applications in a wide range of markets where it is important to control microbial contamination.
