NEWS FROM THE ALPHA INTERNATIONAL KINDERGARTEN

SEMESTER 1 2009/2010 We are now into our third month of our new school year. We warmly welcome our new children in: Playgroup - Le Anh Minh, Huynh Minh Khoi and Agastya Kalwani Pre-Nursery - Doan Huynh Thao Minh, Truong Anh Khoi and Le Bui Khanh Trinh Nursery - Andres Calbeto and Duong Tuan Khang K1 - Nguyen Canh Nguyen K2 - Huynh Dang Vinh They are adapting and developing well in our safe, caring and creative school learning environment. We brought our children to the Go Go Indoor Playland for

our September Friday Special on 17 Sep, and to ASYC for parachute-play in our October Friday Special on 16 Oct. Our children had great fun in both places. The pictures speak for themselves. We also celebrated the Mid-Autumn Festival on Fri 2 Oct and Halloween on Fri 30 Oct in school. Our children enacted and experienced the two dif f erent beliefs and cultures. We are into our second 12 hours e-Kids programme with 13 students, learning numbers 0 to 20, alphabet letters Aa, Bb, Cc, Dd, Ee, Ff, days of the week, colours, tracing straight and curved lines.

Do spend time just enjoying your c hildren, building traditions as a family, and offering play dates where your child can just hang out with friends and come up with their own games. Children benefit from learning self care skills just as we do. Thank you! Mrs Joyce Tan Principal, TAIK

MID-AUTUMN FESTIVAL

Mid-Autumn Festival is an important festival celebrated mostly in Asia. In Vietnam, this occasion is celebrated widely. It is also known as the Mooncake Festival. This is a day to worship the moon god. According to folk legend, this day is also the birthday of the earth god. This festival signals that the year's hard work in the fields will soon come to an end, with only the harvest left to attend to. People use this opportunity to express their gratitude to heaven (represented by the moon) and earth (symbolized by the earth god) for the blessings they have enjoyed over the past year.

HALLOWEEN Halloween is celebrated in TAIK to let our children experience various cultural celebrations across the world. Cross-cultural celebrations is one way of introducing the world to our little kids, and letting them have fun at the same time.
