SEN. JOHN McCAIN (R-AZ): Good morning. As we approach the :cond anniversary of the terrorist attacks on the United States, ;'s appropriate that we again focus our attention on transportation curity. Since that fateful day, our nation has been fighting the r on terrorism, whether it's our security abroad or at home, we !in't afford to lapse into complacency as we grow accustomed to the (-called new kind of normal. Much has been accomplished over the st two years and I think many would agree that transportation curity is at its highest level ever, particularly aviation curity. However, we need to remain vigilant across all modes of jansportation, for the threat to our country has not waned. If we're serious about countering terrorist threats, and we e, we need to have confidence in our security efforts across all des of transportation, and that requires our continued attention to stituting or upgrading sound and reasoned security initiatives, day's hearing is intended to provide both a forum to review on what s occurred over the last two years, and to determine what remains be done to strengthen transportation security and how we can do With respect to aviation security, we must ensure that the ;omplishments of the Transportation Security Administration are not
