What is LEED?

The Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design (LEED) Green Building Rating System™ is the nationally accepted benchmark for the design, construction, and operation of high performance green buildings. LEED promotes a whole-building approach to sustainability by recognizing performance in five key areas of human and environmental health: sustainable site development, water savings, energy efficiency, materials selection, and indoor environmental quality.

What is LEED certification? Projects are awarded Certified, Silver, Gold, or Platinum certification depending on the number of credits they achieve. LEED certified buildings have reduced operating costs, healthier and more productive occupants, and conserve our natural resources.
Sustainable Features of the Student Recreation Center SRC-Sustainable Site Development: Design decisions have been made to ensure a sustainable site. The hardscape treatments have a solar reflectance index which helps reduce the heat island effect. In addition, an Energy Star rated roofing membrane has been selected for an even greater reduction in heat absorbance.

Site selection has contributed to a reduction in environmental impacts from transportation. Additional bike racks have been installed along with the shower/changing room facilities that have been integrated into the design to encourage biking as an alternative to fossil fuel transportation to campus. CSUF already promotes sustainable transportation through the use of car pooling, 50% Metrolink cost discounts, and U-pass for free bus transportation with the Orange County Transportation Authority. Site selection and development has also maximized open space and preserved natural habitat. In addition to the campus' existing 26 acre arboretum, the Student Recreation Center will include an outdoor activity area known as Dumbo Downs. Dumbo Downs is planned to include outdoor fields and courts as well as picnic and seating areas. The campus recreation program as a whole delivers a balance between interior and exterior environments thus promoting a healthy and active experience. SRC-Water Savings: Water efficiency is a major focus in the Student Recreation Center and is estimated to save 40% more water than the baseline standard. This was accomplished by specifying low flow water fixtures for lavatories (0.5 gpm), dual flush water closets (1.6/1.1 gpf), low flow showerheads (1.6gpm) and low flow urinals (0.5 gpf). The project also uses the latest low flow landscape watering technology to surpass a 50% reduction of potable water use. The surface flow irrigation system reduces runoff and provides for a highly efficient low pressure system which saves potable water versus the traditional spray type system.
SRC-Material Selection: The Student Recreation Center's interior sustainability features include low emitting materials-paints, sealants and adhesives, carpets, and no urea formaldehyde in the composite wood. The building materials specified were extracted, harvested, and manufactured within a 500 mile radius of the project site, and provide high recycled content. SRC-Indoor Environmental Quality: The Student Recreation Center is committed to environmental preferable cleaning products and practices. The "Think Green! Clean Green!" custodial program is intended to reduce exposure of building occupants to potentially hazardous chemical contaminants that adversely impact air quality, occupant well-being, and the environment. The program specifies approved and prohibited chemicals and practices, and employee training, which meet or exceed Green Seal standards GS-37, GS-40 and the California Code of Regulations.

SRC-Energy Efficiency: Energy conservation for the Student Recreation Center exceeds the baseline standard by over 30%. This is due in part to the high performance satellite central plant which was designed to support both the Titan Student Union and the Student Recreation Center. This system won the CSU/UC Best Practices Award in 2006 for best HVAC design.

Alison is a Certified Strength and Conditioning Specialist (CSCS) through the National Strength and Conditioning Association, and has been a personal trainer and sports performance enhancement specialist for over 15 years. She was the Strength and Conditioning Coach for the CSUF Women’s Athletic teams from 1992-1996 and the conditioning coach for 7 Olympic gold medalists. Alison has conducted many clinics on sport speed, agility and plyometric training for high school and college bound athletes. One and Two-Baby Boogie and You (Saturdays Noon-12:45pm) 1-2.5 years Children and parents alike will delight in a sense of movement. Dance is a marvelous introduction for little students to acquire confidence and discipline as well as strength, knowledge, and coordination. Tot Tap and Jazz (Saturdays 1:00pm-1:45pm) 2-5 years Tap develops a sense of rhythm and timing that is also useful in music study and athletics. Jazz encourages the freedom of creative expression and is fun, fun, fun! The most rewarding part of this program is that it enhances confidence and positive self-image. No special shoes required.

Alain was born in Montreal, Canada, but has lived in California most of his life. He received his BS and MS degrees in Kinesiology here at CSUF. Alain’s background in exercise physiology, psychology, and motor learning has enabled him to be successful in teaching others. He has been climbing for 10 years and enjoys sharing his knowledge and experiences. Alain’s goal is to have everybody at least try climbing our new Rock Wall. He feels climbing can be an empowering experience and help show ourselves how to deal with obstacles and fears in our pursuit of excellence. Intramural Sports offers opportunities to participate in sports activities on a competitive or recreational level. Leagues and one-day tournaments are available in a wide variety of indoor/outdoor sports. Intramural Sports events are open to all CSUF students, faculty, and staff.

• League Registrations are processed on a first come, first served basis. Teams must pay the entry fee at the SRC Recreation Services Desk - 2nd Floor in the SRC, before rosters will be accepted. • A $5 late fee will be added to the entry fee for any roster which is accepted after the deadline. Late entry forms must be approved by the Intramural Sports Coordinator before they will be accepted. • Entry fees are assessed for each team entered in an officiated sport. These sports include: Flag Football, Ultimate Frisbee, Soccer, Volleyball, Softball, Basketball, and Badminton. • All rosters must be turned in by the entry deadline and a representative from the team must attend the Captain’s meeting to secure a spot in the league. Teams without a representative at the Captain’s meeting risk being dropped from the league. • Rosters are to be completed in full, with valid campus-wide ID numbers listed for each participant. Entry forms are available online at titanrecreation.fullerton.edu or at the SRC Recreation Services Desk.
All of our one-day tournaments are free. The only requirement to participate in the tournament is to bring your valid Titan Card with you. It is recommended that you arrive to the event at least 15-30 minutes before the scheduled start time to secure a spot in the tournament.

One-Day Tournaments I
Session I
ASI Productions, a program of Associated Students Inc. at Cal State Fullerton, has teamed up with Titan Recreation, Student Health Services and Counseling and Psychological Services, all part of the Student Affairs team to create the Titan Fitness Challenge competition. The Titan Fitness Challenge will begin the week of February 2nd, and will conclude after 10 weeks of competition. A total of 24 students will be selected. Free personal training, mind and body workshops and nutritional coaching will be provided to each contestant to help them achieve their goals throughout the competition. An overall winner will be declared at the end of the 10-week competition and will be awarded an eSpinner exercise bike from STAR TRAC, a prize valued at more than $4,800. Applications are available online at tfc.fullerton.edu or in room 269 of the Titan Student Union.

Climb I teaches the safety skills needed to pass the top rope safety (belay) test, which is required for access to the wall during “Open Climb.” Fee includes equipment and shoes. Test out is available for experienced climbers by appointment. (Cost $10) Climb II
We will use a blend of hip hop, funk, and house dancing... creating an energetic workout. Get toned, get fit, and DANCE! This class hits right to the core. Core training utilizes the body’s weight; incorporating abdominal, leg, and hip exercises to target those, “trouble areas.” Firm, define, and tone the mid & lower areas of the body.

Beginning Kung Fu
Karate
A traditional Japanese style of Karate using hand and foot techniques in forms (kata), self-defense, and sparring. Instruction is given as a means of self-defense, physical exercise and personal development.
Mixed Martial Arts
Teaches the basics of stand-up striking, grappling and wrestling. It’s great for anyone interested in learning a variety of martial-arts styles.
Medieval Swordsmanship
This 6-week course is an introduction to the fundamentals of historical fencing based on interpretations of Medieval German and Italian fencing manuals. Class covers grips, stances, footwork, cuts and thrusts, methods of defense, and historical tactics of fencing with the longsword.
Kickboxing
Teaches the basics of kickboxing, Muay Thai and grappling techniques. It’s ideal for full body conditioning, shadow boxing, and all equipment is provided.
Women’s Self-Defense
This class teaches street survival techniques, situational awareness, home security & defensive mindset. Ideal for ALL women.
CPR/First Aid
Participants learn to recognize & respond to a wide variety of emergencies. Course will include initial assessment of victims, emergency scene management, and safety & protection from bloodborne pathogens. Build skills for a new or existing job, or simply know how to help someone in an emergency.
Lifeguarding
This American Red Cross Lifeguard Training is done over 2 weekends and is valid for 3 years. Includes First Aid and CPR/AED for the Professional Rescuer.
Triathlon Training
This training program will enable you to train with focus, while keeping your workouts more interesting & productive. Whatever your goal -- triathlon, marathon, 10K -- these classes will help support & motivate you to reach greater heights.
Performance Cycle
These 90-minute classes are designed to take your training to the next level. Experience a challenging array of intervals, hill training, resistance, & drills. We will use bike computers to monitor cadence & heart rate for improving aerobic capacity.
Salsa
One of the hottest Latin dances has become a great workout alternative. This class will teach the many steps & techniques of Salsa dancing while leading/following a dance partner. Dance partner not required to participate.
Belly Dancing
Learn the basic moves and rhythms of this Middle Eastern dance style while you tone those abdominal muscles. The instructors will lead you through various dance patterns as you become more proficient in this ancient art.

Classes will teach basic blocks, attacks & self-defense techniques, along with the history & philosophy of Chinese Kung Fu. Ideal for people looking to learn how to protect themselves, get fit & flexible, & experience an ancient martial culture.
Dance to big band, rock-and-roll, and blues with Swing. Our instructors will teach you to dance to various tempos using variations of the six-count basic, including single, double, and triple-steps. You will learn unique Swing moves such as the Cuddle, Sugar-Push, and Apache. A blend of hip hop, funk, & house dancing, creating an energetic workout & art form. Participants will be guided by improvisation creating their own personal style. Explore the benefits of drumming to reduce stress, strengthen the immune system, & release joyful endorphins. Djembe drums will be provided & used to learn traditional West African rhythms, teach specific exercises & techniques to help develop inner rhythm. No musical experience necessary!
