SURVEYING LESSON 3

WHAT ARE THE CLASSIFICATION OF SURVEYS?

1. Plane Survey Surveys that cover so small a part of the earth’s surface that its curvature need not to be taken into account. 2. Geodetic Survey Surveys in which the earth’s curvature must be taken into account. 3. Cadastral Survey Surveys which are made for determining and defining land boundaries and areas. They are also used for locating and identifying property lines.

4. Relocation Survey A survey to established the boundaries of a parcel using its legal description which typically involves the setting or restoration of monuments or markers at the corners or along the lines of the parcel often in the form of iron rods, pipes or concrete monuments in the ground or nails set in concrete or asphalt. In the past wooden post, blazes in trees, piled stone corners or other types of monuments have also been used.

5. Topographic Survey Are those made for determining the shape of the ground and the location of both natural and artificial features upon it. 6. Engineering Surveys a. Route Survey They comprise survey of linear construction such as railroads, highways, canals, transmission lines including the layout of lines and grades for these projects.

b. As-Built Survey A survey conducted several times during construction project to verify. This usually entails a complete survey of the site to confirm that the structures, utilities and roadways proposed were built in the proper locations authorized in the plot plan or site plan. c. Construction Survey known as layout or setting out survey. It is a process of establishing, marking the position and detailed layout of new structures such as roads or buildings for subsequent construction.

7. Underground surveys Consists of surveys for locating the workings below the earth’s surface as in mines, tunnels and aqueducts. 8. Aerial Surveys Utilize photographs taken from an airplane. Measurements are obtained from the photographs or from three dimensional projections of stereo-pairs of photograph. The process of obtaining such measurement is called photogrammetry.

9. Hydrographic Survey Are those made for determining the shape of the bottom of lakes, rivers, harbors and oceans. They also include the measurement of flow of water in streams and the estimation of water resources. a. Bathymetric Survey A survey carried out to map the seabed profile. Consists of surveys for sea bed and under water terrain .or profile
