INTRODUCTION The Group Discussion is a Personality test most popular with Public/Private sector undertaking, government departments, commercial firms, Aims, universities, and other educational organization to screen candidates, after the Written Test.

WHAT DOES A GROUP DISCUSSION EVALUATED? 1. A Group Discussion primarily evaluates

your ability to interact in a Group given

2.Your Group behavior means so much for your success as a manager 3.The Gd evaluator, therefore, focus on group dynamic rather than the content of your views.

TECHNIQUE 1. Consists of 8 To 10 candidates. 2. No one is nominated as leader, coordinator or chairman to conduct the discussion. 3. 20 to 30 minutes. 4. Each candidates is indicated by his/her roll number.

CONT… 5.For easy recognition, prominently

displayed on the candidate’s front and back. 6.The seating is arranged in a circle the 7.According to the ascending order of roll numbers.

EMERGING LEADERSHIP 1. Starts without a leader. 2. It is free and equal chance for all candidates to express their views on the topic. 3. attempt is self-defeating, as in group discussion all are equal as participants.

STRATEGY  To Gain entire group’s attention 1. To begin, speak to the person sitting diagonally opposite you. 2. Begin speaking to the person who has just finished talking. 3. Make friends by speaking to those who have been keeping ignored by the rest of the group

CONT…  Should you invite some-body who has been keeping quite, to participate? 1. No unless you have formal authority to do so. 2. Everybody is equal in a group discussion.

YOUR OBJECTIVE OF LANGUAGE 1. Formal 2. Simple, correct spoken English 3. Not colloquial 4. Not literary English

YOUR OBJECTIVE OF DRESS 1. Formal 2. Men in business suits 3. Ladies in sarees / formal salwar kameez

BODY LANGUAGE  Posture 1.Formal(straight back; hands together In The Front/On The Edge Of The Table.) 2.Must reflect enthusiasm.

CONT…  Gesture and body movement 1.Shouldn’t be threatening or restricting other members. 2. Avoid excessive use of hands. 3. Be natural.

CONT…  Eye Contact 1.Establish eye contact with as many as you can while speaking.

POINTS TO REMEMBER  Don’t Attempt To Be A Leader By Trying To Sum Up Or Conclude When The Group Has Not Clearly Reached Any Conclusion, Yet.  Remember That A Gd Is To Assess Your Ability To Interact In A Group Effectively.
