Sub Plans 7:35 Pick up students in cafeteria and head back to the classroom As students enter the classroom they need to unpack their Bee books from their backpacks and go to their tables. (they stack their books at their table in “no man’s land”) They head back to their tables and get out their math journal and start on number of the day. While working on number of the day, I call them by table to answer question of the day. 7:45-8:15 Number of the Day/Problem of the Day (I wrote it on the board, they need to write the number in a box, write the word, and show ten ways to make the number). We also do problem of the day. I wait until after announcements when most of the kiddo’s are in the room. I read the problem whole group and pass out the strips for them to glue in their journal and solve with an emphasis on showing me their thinking. When they start working I check their BEE books (money pouch and folders in the back in case there are any parent notes). If students finish before I check them, they get a book or puzzle and take it back to their table spot. After they have had some time to work you can go around and stamp their journals. I ring the xylophone as a clean up and come to the carpet signal. *this morning because of tie dye I have a few extra table jobs…one of them is Mikayla’s Secret Birthday messages (the children write and draw a message for Mikayla since today is her birthday…then I staple them into book with a cover and put it in the birthday bag for her to take home *Columbus poem, they can illustrate it and put it in their poetry notebook *Mini pumpkin book (color, cut and staple in top left corner) 8:30 or 8:45ish Class Meeting-Calendar and days in school chart. Then we discuss question of the day and write a math sentence to reflects the results absent+yeses+no’s=20. I already put the two assist-ANTS for the day on the board. Also, sing have Mikayla stand in front of the class and sing Happy Birthday to her. 8:45-9:20 Social Studies Christopher Columbus book and response. Read the

1492 story (we have already done some reading and talking about CC and have the children do the writing response to go with it. (early finishers can play a math game, do puzzle or read a book) 9:20-10:00 Reader’s Workshop: Read to Self (there is a chart on the bulletin board listing read to self behaviors-students can read anywhere in the room as long as they have self space) We have been working on “retelling” as a skill. While the kids are doing read to self, please circulate among them listening to them read and asking them to retell their story. To get them started, take down the three purple baskets and the assistants will hold up one bag at a time, the children will get their bag of books and choose a spot to read. After 20 minutes or so of Read to Self, ring the xylophone and the children will move into Buddy reading. Remind them to check for understanding throughout. At 10 ring the bell so they can clean up and go back to their tables 10:00-10:30 Snack and Wow-Today’s snack is oranges-pass them out with a paper towel to eat before you head out-they are easy peel. Clean up and then head out to walk the track and play on playscape. Afterwards, the kids will come in and sit on the carpet and then I call them by rows to get drinks. While they are waiting one of the kids can read poems or big books to the class. If it’s raining you may want to take a dance break. 10:30-11:00 Writer’s Workshop yesterday we began talking about writing a small moment. They can continue working on it. We are focusing on “stretching out the moment” adding details. They can continue working on their small moment. Also remind them of what to do if they don’t know how to spell a word (there is a small chart on the bulletin board) The paper is in the yellow baskets. Students can write on one page or put a few together to make a book. If they tell you they are done, remind them when they are done they can 1.add to the picture 2. Add to the words 3. Start a new piece

11:00-11:20 Word Work Tell them they need to investigate the –op chunk

Have the assistants place the word work materials at the tables (dry erase boards, wikki stix, stamps, playdough, and magnet letters) then put up a chart on the board. With –it on the paper. Call the students by the sticks for them to choose what material they want to work with (no more than 4 people at any table) As they discover words they can write it on the chart unless it is already on there. Have them clean up in time for lunch. We can go over the chart tomorrow 11:24 -11:54 LUNCH 11:54 BEE books and Story Time. When you come in from lunch, have them go to their tables and call them two tables at a time to put bugs in their bug jars and put their bee books in their backpack. When they are done, have them come to the carpet for story time. Read Clifford’s Halloween and after the end of the story have them turn to someone on the carpet and practice retelling it. Then have them go back to their tables and draw and write their retelling on the paper I left. 12:30ish-1:00ish Recess Come in around 1:05 or so and get drinks so that you will be ready for reading buddies. (read poems or big books if you are having to wait a bit for the buddies to get there) 1:15ish Reading Buddies I left two activities-one is a pumpkin book and one is an pumpkin art and craft. I will probably go ahead and give it to the 5th grade teacher but if I forget, there is an example of the pumpkin book. The funny face pumpkings. They can use construction paper to make pumpkins instead of using real ones and there is a basket of magazines they can use to cut out the faces by the cubbies. About 1:48 have them clean up so you can be at MUSIC at 1:55 1:55-2:40 MUSIC 2:40 Dismissal, I bring the kids back and we read the goodbye book real

quick. Then I open the door and call the kids a couple at time as their parent comes to the door and we do handshake hug or high five. Taped to the wall by the door is the list of who does what afterschool. When everyone is gone, I walk down the extend a care kids or creativity club if they weren’t picked up. Habibi’s (Jean Marie) comes and gets Henry, Piper, and Waylon. Thank you.. Call me if you need anything 705-5647 I am sure I am forgetting something because it is late and I am tired! Basically I don’t care if it all doesn’t get done-just survive!
