Project 1 Specifics 3D Concepts, Fall 2008

Coil-built Form Specifications -make an hourglass shape -15 in. tall -8 in. wide at largest diameter -4 in. wide at smallest diameter -clay walls must measure between ¼ and 3/8 of an inch thick Slab-built Form Specifications -make a geometric form of your choice with straight edges -the form must be at least 7 inches in any one direction -clay walls must measure between ¼ and 3/8 of an inch thick Pinched Form Specifications -make a sphere that measures 6 inches in diameter -you will pinch the two halves of the sphere and join them when leather-hard -clay walls must measure between ¼ and 3/8 of an inch thick Solid Form Specifications -sculpt a solid form of any animal you choose that measures 12 inches in any one direction (ex. monkey, dog, rabbit, meerkat, unicorn) -when leather-hard, you will cut apart the sculpture in sections, hollow the form, re-attach the parts and hide the seams -clay walls must measure between ¼ and 3/8 of an inch thick

Notes from Wednesday, August 27th class: -Make sure to have all 4 pieces at least halfway completed by next Wednesday, September 3rd. -Make sure to keep each piece (and slabs and coils….) snuggly wrapped in plastic (and lightly spritzed with water as needed) so that they don’t get too dry. -Refer to the assigned readings listed at the top of Project 1 Sheet. READ THEM ALL PLEASE! You will save yourself much time, energy, and grief if you read before getting too far into building.
