Agenda • What is a Bill of Material? • Components of the Bill of Material • Examples of Bills of Material
What is a Bill of Material? A Bill of Material used in manufacturing reflects the product planned by the manufacture engineer, also referred to as the "as manufactured" or "as built" bill of material. The Manufacturing Bill of Materials (MBOM) the “as built” structure is meant to reflect how an end item is manufactured on the shop floor.
Components of the BOM It is a list of the: • part or assembly details (such as number, price, description and/or drawings) • a description of part characteristics (mass, size) • quantities of components of the assembly or part (example: if a part is used multiple times) • part material description (type of steel)
Components of the BOM It is a list of the: • the tools required in the part manufacturing • if the parts are to be purchased or manufactured • identification marks for the site construction team • any other notes needed on the components
