Nathalie Gonzalez Mr. Phillips English 3 28 February 2019 Stricter Dress Code I feel like boys don’t have the same standards as girls when it comes to the school dress code. Girls dont have the permission to show any skin or show off any attractive body parts. For example, girls get in trouble for wearing a mini crop top and some shorts just because it might be very distracting to males. Guys need to either have the same privileges as girls or not to have dress code at all because everyone needs equal standards and not all dress codes have the same privileges and some people just don't really care about the rights females has because its not fair for either females or males because why would males not get in trouble for showing all their behind and their pants all the way down? The gender of which does NOT matter this case because some school have their own dress code that goes along with girls using leggings, crop tops, spaghetti straps, and also little shorts that us females wear in the summer. I feel like school is being unfair and doesn’t care about what we think about making the dress code for men equal and the same as girls and at times it doesn't go the way girls want it to go for boys like girls. Sometimes when girls feel too comfortable by showing, they get too distracting for guys and I feel like that is inequality towards young females just by wearing that makes them feel comfortable. The only problem with Leesville Road High Schools’ dress code is that guys need to follow up with the appropriate dress code. Even though girls dont like the dress code either, they still manage to follow the rules. The ordinary dress code privileges for males are no undergarments, no sagging, no see through clothing, no hoods, or any sort of gang related clothing or symbols such as marijuana leafs and so on. It is more likely to have guys violate the dress code because who wouldn’t get mad for not wearing what they want to school? But every single school in the area has their own particular dress code. The benefits for

Gonzalez 2 the dress code in school is to protect your body and prevent any sexual behavior that can distract teachers or students. There was a time around the late 1960’s and 70’s when boys were also physically attacked just for having long hair. When it comes to certain circumstances, people start making rude comments on social media and start complaining how the dress code does not do anything for the students. For over a decade, the school dress code has become a controversy for many people and teachers too! It is somewhat safer to use uniforms instead of your own clothes because that can help the school stop gang related situations and make the school a more safer and protected place to be. By the way students react to the policies, I naturally agree with their thoughts on it because like I mentioned earlier, it feels like a way to discriminate the rights of females. There is a whole purpose to the dress code. It can help the students be more attire and comfortable to school. They know the dress code is ridiculous and not worth it, but everything has a purpose to be there. Clothing is what makes the person be. For example: a girl that is shy and smart wearing school appropriate clothing such as jeans, a sweater, and some sneakers. My clothing is what represents me and I always feel comfortable . I feel as the dress code has nothing to do with who I am. Yes, the dress code has a purpose. But the purpose has nothing to do with you wearing what I want and what I feel comfortable. The school takes the dress code very serious just for nothing. It makes us students look ridiculous and uncool because it doesn’t go with our swag at times and it makes us look bad by following a dress code that no one I know follows. The dress code is only used for the people who have trouble covering up their skin and also those who have trouble following it.. So I feel like the dress code is really not working for anyone at my school because we are the students here and we are the ones who decide what to wear and not. I know that i want to be successful in school and pass all my grades, but school attire does not distract me or anyone else. It MIGHT bother other people, but I am in possession of what I wear and the school is not going to do anything about it because I pass by a lot of students who have violated the dress code, but don’t get in trouble, so what is the whole purpose of it. I am not taking the side of the dress code being extra stricter

Gonzalez 3 with their students because it makes us look foolish. I am against this because the trend right now is wearing sagging pants, bandanas, and gang related clothing. The dress code goes too far often because we only do what the whole world is doing right now and they ask us informally to pull our pants up when we don’t have a belt on us. Girls have the obligation to follow the dress code because some of the attire girls be wearing is too distracting. For example, leggings have always been prohibited and they still wear them

I think the best solution for this topic regarding Dress Code policies is that everyone should

follow it the way they are supposed to because it is very important to know the risks on not following it. The dress code is not really a important thing for students, but for the school does because they care about how you stay safe and be successful in school. Appropriate clothing can get students very far by following something almost everybody does not. EVERY DRESS CODE HAS A PURPOSE!!!!
