STIMULATORS Stimulators are device which are used to stimulate innervated muscles, denervated muscles and nerves.
Stimulation of Nerves In
normal case, the potential difference across the nerve membrane is 100mV. If this potential is reversed for more than about 20mS, the nerve will stimulated. Membrane capacitance=10pF.
Types of Waveforms used in Stimulators
Galvanic current: Constant DC current, the maximum amount of current passed through the body is about 0.3 to 0.5mA/cm2. Duration 10 to 20 minutes.
Interrupted Galvanic Current: They are series of negative going rectangular pulses. The pulse duration:100mS. Repetition rate:12 & 70 per minute.
Faradic current: Duration:0.5mS &1ms. Shape: Triangular Two types: Plain and Surged
Exponential Current: Used for severe paralysis attack. Slope of Exponential pulse can be varied to provide selective stimulation.
Versatile electrodiagnostic
Peripheral nerve stimulators
Pulse generator which determines the pulse repetition rate. The monostable determines the trigger pulse width of the emitter follower.
Implanted prosthetic stimulator
One of the implanted which is used to discharge urine. It is also used to stimulate the leg and fingure muscles.
r e d d a l b l a n r e t Ex stimulators
It is used for ‘urinary misery’ patients By changing the R4&R2 it is possible to adjust the pulse duration The circuit is available in the hybrid integrated circuit form. The driver amplifier is used to get o/p in favourable manner.
