A word from the Fathers…

Announcements • Last Sunday’s attendance was … souls, collection was …0.00 total. May our Lord God reward you abundantly for your generosity. • We have been hard at work making some renovations to the parish. First, you will notice that a new sound system has been installed, which has you’re your pastor audible. This is no small feat, as most of you know, who have heard me preach over these past few years. A very special thank you to David and Sally Leatherby for paying for the new microphone, to Carry Cunningham for the speakers, and to Bob Kay for the labor he provided. Secondly, we have cleaned, repainted, and recarpeted the offices upstairs. Come and see! This was done in large part through the inspiration and devotion of my mother-in-law, Jennifer Leatherby, who worked here tirelessly this week, and paid for the repainting of the offices. A very special thank you to her, to Roy and Cheryl Cowan, who sold the “extras” at their garage sale, to our painters— Michael Johnson and crew, and to Jim Simas and Company, who donated new carpet and linoleum for the bathrooms (to be installed Monday, October 12th), and finally, to Gene Ford for his help. We are still working on setting up a children’s playroom in the “theater” area. If you have items that you’d like to share—such as puzzles, games, etceteras— please bring them next week, October 18th.

Please remember all of our benefactors in your prayers; I will also be offering the Divine Liturgy for each of them, and for all of their special intentions. • WE NEED YOUR HELP! We would like to raise funds for our parish in the “Christmas around the world” event, on November 14th 2009, which also happens to be the Feast of St. Philip the Apostle! Please reserve that day. Beforehand, we will need people to transport the items and baked goods, etc. to the hall, and to set-up. During the event, we will need people to take shifts working at the booth. Also, if you have any items you would be willing to make or donate, especially baked goods or Christmas crafts, please do so. They can be stored at the church if you do not have room at home. Also, for health reasons all items of food should be wrapped securely. If you can help, please contact Margaret Dean or Elizabeth Baker. • As you know, our small parish community cannot survive without fundraising. We all have to participate. I will try to establish a schedule of regular events, and am happy to hear suggestions from you. Christmas around the world will be probably the last event of this calendar year. • To the members of the parish council and financial council: We will meet on Sunday, Oct. 18th 2009 at 12.30pm at the church. Please reserve the date! • Cleaning day! On Saturday, Oct. 17, around 10 am, come and help. Basic cleanup of the church and the hall needed, vacuuming, dusting, mopping, moving furniture, etc.
