Student Response and Assessment Tools Universal Design for Learning (UDL): Using Kahoot is one of the most efficient ways to assess student learning in the classroom. Kahoot offers educators the opportunity to assess the class using personal devices or school devices. Kahoot allows users to insert media such as images or videos, kahoots can be created in different languages; and the variety of learning modalities that Kahoot addresses reflects many of the Universal Design for Learning (UDL) Guidelines. Engagement: This student response tool offers educators an engaging way to test the learning and knowledge of their students. Kahoot uses game-based learning approach to inspire creation and research in students. The students view this activity more as a game than an assessment and this encourages quality engagement. One can also ensure that all students are participating.
Representation: The students represent their knowledge on the topic by selecting the appropriate answer choice. This SRT is competitive, and students enjoy seeing their performance up on the board.
Action and Expression: Kahoot is an interactive game that allows students to participate individually or in groups. Kahoot offers immediate feedback after each question, displaying the number of correct responses as when as the number of incorrect responses for each possible answer.  Describe the instructional activities that will occur PRIOR to the SRT activity and how you will introduce the SRT activity. The students will be introduced to a variety of national holidays and people celebrated in America. We will discuss as a class what each holiday is and when it is celebrated, and we will also discuss historical figures and what he or she did to impact our country. After the teacher goes over these days celebrated, a short video will be played for what happens and what or who is celebrated on each of the days. Likewise, the Kahoot game will be introduced at the end of the lesson. The teacher will have the iPads logged into the game for the Kindergartners, and he or she will hand the students an iPad. Furthermore, the teacher will exemplify with the IWB how students will select the correct day that matches the question. Describe the purpose of the SRT activity (check all that apply): X Assess prior knowledge ☐ Anticipatory set (Create interest in a topic) ☐ To illuminate common misconceptions X Formative assessment of content knowledge (for purpose of differentiation and mastery for ALL students) ☐ Summative assessment of content knowledge ☐ Test preparation ☐ Survey/Poll ☐ Discussion starter ☐ “Homework” collection ☐ Other (please explain): Briefly describe what will happen DURING the SRT activity: The students will be given iPads to answer the Kahoot questions. The teacher will read the questions and answer choices to the students, and he or she will have 20 seconds to choose the best choice. The activity as a whole should last anywhere between 20 and 30 minutes. Type of questions/prompts used in this activity (check all that apply): X Multiple choice ☐ Multiple select ☐ True/False ☐ Yes/No ☐ Short open-ended response or fill-in the blank ☐ Longer open-ended response If you are unable to provide a working sample of your questions, please list them below (8-10): Right/Wrong answers: Will there be right/wrong answers to these questions? X Yes ☐ No ☐ Mixed (Some will have correct answers, other will not.)

Student Response and Assessment Tools Immediate corrective feedback: Will you pre-select correct answers to some of all of the questions and display correct response to the class after the SRT activity? X Yes ☐ No Why or why not? The teacher will select the correct answer choice to all of the questions. The students receive immediate feedback to whether their answer choice was right to wrong after submitting. The teacher will also over the quiz with the students afterwards so that he or she understands why which answer choice was right or wrong. Describe what will happen AFTER the SRT activity? After the SRT activity ends, the teacher will ask the students to place the iPads on the table when the quiz finishes. Then, he or she will walk around to gather all of the iPads from the tables. The students will be instructed to sit quietly until the next activity. The teacher will go over the quiz with the students afterwards so that he or she understands why which answer choice was right or wrong. How will the data be used? The data collected will be the students responses to each of the questions asked. This will provide the teacher with information on how well the students understand each National holiday celebrated in the U.S. This student response quiz will go in the grade book. The results will also be posted on the class blog for parents to monitor individual progress. Moreover, the teacher will not discuss which students got what questions right; however, he or she will explain which answer is correct for each question and why. Likewise, if any of the students miss 5 or more, the teacher will set aside individual review time for these students at some point during the instructional day. Describe your personal learning goal for this activity. This is the fist time trying a SRT with the Kindergarten students. My hope is that it builds an interest in their use of technology and that is also helps them become engaged in the lesson with this fun, hands-on learning tool. Reflective Practice: From using Kahoot as a SRT, teachers receive immediate data that can be used to inform teaching and learning that instant in the classroom. This is significant because it gives students and teachers the opportunity to change the course of the lesson if necessary. Moreover, Kahoot is used in many special needs classes, extracurricular courses and teachers can even give students homework where they create their own Kahoots or play Kahoots in Ghost Mode. (In Ghost Mode you replay a game.) The teacher may upload this game to the class blog for students to practice at home, taking this from a LoTi 4 to a LoTi 5 because it will be used outside of the four walls of the classroom. Likewise, the teacher may also ask the students to create their own Kahoot game at home. The students may be asked to come up with their own questions about the National holidays and create their own answer choices. This enhances students creative mind set and gives them a chance to use their own computer or tablet. They are engaged in making this quiz at home for their classmates to complete. Also, the teacher can give specific instructions on the class blog on how to use Kahoot and create a quiz, and the parents can upload the link.
