By Siti Asma’ From the 15th December until 18th December 2004 the Cultural and Arts Unit of the Student Development & CoCurricular Division organized the Intervarsity Islamic Performing Arts Competition (iiPAC ‘04) with the theme “Sounds of the Heart”. The main goal of this program was to promote alternative entertainment with high moral values for young people. The program started off with the opening ceremony and the tremendous concert of Gema Gangsa 2004, followed by three main contests; theatre, singing, khat competition and the unforgettable dikir barat and soul performance. It is great that this program received full support not only by students of IIUM, but also

Striving to Offer You The Best By Mohamad Zarifi B Mohamad Daud SRC President session 2004/05 means no student can exclude himself/herself from being a member of the SRC. Realizing the importance of support and encouragement from the community of IIUM, with arms wide open, SRC welcomes any kind of practical ideas, suggestions, collaborations and critiques for the betterment of the council to serve the students and to assist the administration.

Assalamualaikum warahmatullah hiwabarakatuh.. Wishes of ukhuwwah, blessing of friendship.. The Prophet (s.a.w) said; “The bonds of brotherhood between two Muslims are like parts of a house, one part strengthens and holds the other.” To illustrate this he crossed his fingers of one hand with those of the other (reported by Bukhari and Muslim). In spite of future challenges and rapid globalization, we as students should realize the importance of knowledge. Knowledge is the key and power to develop ourselves. Without knowledge, we would be like bodies without souls. Therefore we must realize that learning is a journey, not a goal or destination. It is a process to emulate, and shape us as an individual and in turn to contribute to the society and the ummah. Knowledge cannot be used to inflict evil or wrongdoings in the world but to spread peace, justice and the words of Allah and the teachings of our beloved Prophet Muhammad (s.a.w). Dear ikhwanul muslimin, Formally appointed on 2nd December 2004, the Executive Council of SRC has been in the office since the day we were elected and entrusted by the students of the university to be the mediator and to represent their views to the authority. Therefore, holding strong to this ‘amanah, we strive to

The establishment of SRC is not to create another group of separate entity, which has its own qualified members. SRC is meant for all the students of IIUM, which MOTTO Sincere, Reliable, Committed OBJECTIVES & FUNCTIONS

The spirit of integration and unity of various culture and disciplines is a precious asset to the needs of mankind, cultivating it in the international environment of IIUM which shall benefit the ummah presently and in the future. Nevertheless, this is a mission to be achieved and a vision seriously taken to inculcate the sense of belonging and to promote unity among the students. Life Threatening Problem Unresolved By Amrah The roads in front of Mahallah Uthman and the Male Sports Complex are in desperate need of repair. There are two holes in the middle of the road in front of Mahallah Uthman (one, with the depth of approximately 3.5 inches and the width of more than 13 inches, and another with the depth of 3 inches and width of 2 inches) and another hole on the road in front of the Sports Complex (measuring 3.1 inches and 23 inches in depth and width respectively) which prove as a threat to vehicles. These holes seem more of a risk to drivers and motorists at night as they are unable to see them. Drivers and motorists tend to suddenly swerve their vehicles to avoid the holes which may lead to accidents.

Campus Security on High Alert! By Amira

Death Trap! A report has been made by SRC to the authority and all of us are hoping that immediate action is taken to repair the roads before any unwanted accidents occur.

Due to the increasing number of theft cases in this university, the security unit has strengthened the implementation of safety system within the campus compound. Security officers have been making round-theclock check-ups on vehicles entering the university. Students now have to produce their matric cards whenever necessary. This is to avoid the usurpers from entering the campus ground. Therefore, all students are then forewarned that they are to follow all the rules and regulations of IIUM. The rules function as the means to secure the safety of the community in this university. Let us do our part in making it happen. Your co-operation is highly appreciated.
