__________________________________________________________________________________________ Eligibility Students must be enrolled in a High Flyers or Trailblazers course at EF to participate in the Spelling Bee. Format Prospective contestants must first pass a written qualifier test. There are three distinct qualifying tests for our three levels of competition: -

The High Flyers Low qualifier takes words from High Flyers Starter through High Flyers 2B. The High Flyers High qualifier takes words from High Flyers 3A through High Flyers 5B. The Trailblazers qualifier takes words from Trailblazers 2B through 5B.

Following the qualifier 100 students will participate in our Preliminary Round of testing. Students will spell 15 words. Students receive 1 point for a word spelled correctly and 0 points for an incorrect spelling. 50 students qualify to participate in our Spelling Bee Semifinals. Students will be asked to spell 15 words. If a student misspells a word he or she is disqualified from spelling any further words. 25 students will qualify to participate in our Spelling Bee Finals. Upon incorrectly spelling a word the speller is eliminated from the competition. Time Constraints Students have one minute to spell a word from the time the pronouncer first pronounces the word. Spellers may request that the word be used in a sentence to eliminate homonyms and ambiguity. Dates To be decided and announced at leisure. Renato Ganoza for EF Zhengzhou, 2009
