If the student gives a simple “yes” or “no” answer or answers with one word he is scored 1. If the student answers the question correctly, but not in a full sentence he is scored 2. If the student answers correctly and in a full sentence he is scored 3. If the student answers correctly with two or more full sentences he receives a 4. If the student is able to answer correctly in a long turn of speech he gets a 5. This test uses open-ended questions to gauge a contestant’s ability to produce speech.
