Julie Ortega Instructor Folden Education 2301.440 March 6, 2019 Special Population Philosophy of Education As a future educator I strongly believe that every child can learn, regardless their circumstances, when provided with the proper resources. It is important that the special population students have an equal opportunity to excel. I believe that the special population students have the ability to grow, function, learn, and most importantly to succeed. The Gifted and Talented students are self-motivated learners. I believe that they should be challenged and provided with the opportunity to utilize their higher thinking skills. As a teacher you incorporate different strategies that will increase subject area complexity, such as adjusting the content placing and allowing deeper thinking to take place. I strongly feel that it is important to encourage the Gifted and Talented students to discover information, rather than handing it to them. These strategies can be conducted by having the students analyze and evaluate sources that align with topics being discussed. Most importantly, I believe that our Gifted and Talented students should be allowed to grow in their educational career and not stopped at a certain point because of the advanced thinking that takes place. Our Special Education students are brilliant individuals who are capable of accomplishing any task. I believe in the importance of assisting to create IEP’s that will benefit my students and are aligned to meet their educational needs. Furthermore, I believe that Special Education students should be provided with the opportunity to receive their education with nondisability students in a least restricted environment before being placed in a greater restricted learning classroom. It is important to me that these students are not neglected an equal educational opportunity, but rather given the proper accommodations, support, and modifications needed to excel and function academically.

I believe that when teaching these students, it is essential for the teacher to discover where the student stands academically. It is important the teacher meets the student there and builds on the concepts that they do not know yet. Additionally, I believe that it is crucial to present engaging activities, books, and topics to English Language Learners because it will create a desire to continue their learning. For example, teachers may present the topics in forms of group work or visual aids to create an easier way of comprehending. Homeless students are often overseen as individuals. As a future teacher, I believe in valuing the person and looking past a student’s socioeconomic status. It is crucial for a teacher to create a welcoming and safe environment that will intrigue the students learning. As a teacher, I will incorporate strategies that will help homeless students be successful. For example, I will make sure their basic needs are met, complete an educational assessment, and offer tutoring. Most importantly, I believe in the right of equality for these students and providing them with the opportunities that their classmates receive. Every student is different, and each student has a different story. I believe in creating a valuable learning environment where our special population students can flourish. Furthermore, I believe in discovering the hidden potential within these students. I will provide these students with encouragement and understanding, which will allow the special population students to grow, function, learn, and most importantly to be successful individuals.
