LEED DECLARATION Special-Lite® Entrance Products are designed to withstand the rigors of the real world, even in the most demanding commercial and institutional applications. Their superior performance in use, minimal maintenance requirements, and extended service life result in the lowest possible life cycle cost, while supporting the goals of sustainability. The LEED Green Building Rating System certifies whole buildings, not individual building products. Entrances represent a relatively small percentage of both total construction costs and building envelope surface area, therefore the specification of Special-Lite or any other particular type or brand of entrance product will not earn any LEED points outright. Special-Lite Entrance Products can contribute to point calculations for the following credits: MR Credit 4.1 Recycled Content 10% (post-consumer = 1/2 pre-consumer) 1 point MR Credit 4.2 Recycled Content 20% (post-consumer = 1/2 pre-consumer) 1 point All aluminum extrusions used by Special-Lite, Inc. are produced using prime-equivalent billet produced from 100% reprocessed 6063-T5 alloy recovered from industrial processes. The USGBC classifies these extrusions as pre-consumer recycled material. Special-Lite® Framing and Monumental Doors are essentially 100% aluminum by weight (excluding fasteners, glass and gasket materials). The aluminum content of SpecialLite® Flush Doors varies by specific model, hardware specified, number of vision lites, and size. For a 3-by-7 foot flush door the aluminum content is a minimum 33% by weight. To determine specific aluminum content values for odd-size or oversize doors, the Special-Lite Engineering department should be contacted at 1-800-821-6531. MR Credit 5.1 Regional Materials 10% Extracted/Harvested, Processed & Manufactured Regionally (within 500 miles) 1 point MR Credit 5.2 Regional Materials 20% Extracted/Harvested, Processed & Manufactured Regionally (within 500 miles) 1 point Special-Lite’s sole manufacturing facility is located at 860 S. Williams Street in Decatur, Michigan. All major components and materials, including aluminum extrusions, are sourced within 500 miles of our facility. The point of recovery and smelting of preconsumer recycled material are also within 500 miles of the facility. Sourcing information for applied hardware not manufactured by Special-Lite must be requested from the specific hardware manufacturer. Item #1309 09/09 Credits shown are for LEED for New Construction and Major Renovations.
