What is Special Education? Education assisted by equipment, settings especially designed for people with disabilities.
Why is Special Education needed? Many people around the world are suffering from disabilities, including children.
The need for access to education and information arises. However, educating disabled people requires a special approach, also depending on the type of disability.
Therefore, a Special Education system for the disabled is required.

History of Special Education First introduced in the USA after WWII. 1947: One of the first Special Education organizations, the American Association on Mental Deficiency, held its first convention
History of Special Education 1950s: A number of Special Education parent organizations were formed. 1960s: Many Special Education schools established in the USA.
History of Special Education November 29, 1975: The American Congress approved of the “Individuals with Disabilities Education Act” (IDEA). IDEA is considered a civil law.

Communication in class Braille: Used for communication with blind students, invented by Louis Braille
Communication in class Sign language: Combination of hand shapes, movements of arms, the body and facial expressions in communications related to deaf students.
Types of Special Education Inclusion:
Partial inclusion model: Children with special needs are educated in the specialized classroom for at least half a day outside their regular classrooms. Full inclusion model: Children with special needs never leave the regular classroom. They work with a personal assitant with the regular classroom setting.
Types of Special Education Mainstreaming: Children with special needs will study with special assistance outside their regular classroom in specific time period.
Types of Special Education Segregation: Disabled students work full time in their specialized classroom. Most generally, they attend a special school.
Types of Special Education Exclusion: In this model, students do not receive education in any school but one-on-one instruction or group instruction

Famous disabled people Ludwig van Beethoven: Legendary German composer. Known to be deaf. Helen Keller: Devoted her life to people with disabilities. Mute, deaf and blind. Thomas Edison: Great American inventor. Has hearing impairment. Stephen Hawking: British physicist and mathemician. In a wheelchair and needs a computer to speak.
