It’s eleven dollars. They’re 20 dollars. How about 1 dollar? Goodbye.

Students practice this dialogue with the teacher and looking at pictures. Activity: Worksheet: Give each student a sheet of paper. Write the numbers from 1-100 on the board and have them copy them on their sheet. Game: Divide the students into shopkeepers and customers. Give each shopkeeper stock. Use the picture cards. They use the dialogue to bargain.

Students practice this dialogue with the teacher and looking at pictures. Activity: Worksheet: Reading, writing and listening practice pages 58 and 59. Game: Divide the students into shopkeepers and customers. Give each shopkeeper stock. Use the picture cards and get them to take off their shoes, gloves, and coats and use then as well. They use the dialogue to get the best bargains.

Practice questions and answers with the students using pictures as flashcards. Activity: Worksheet: Page 74. The teacher says a body part and then the student picks the correct body part from the box and writes it in the space provided on the picture on page 74. Worksheet: Pages 70 and 71. Look and the picture and answer the questions with the teacher orally first. “What’s she doing?” “She’s reading.” Then write the sentences for writing practice. Game: Simon says game with body and face parts. E.g. Touch your head.

B: Yes he is. No he isn’t. Practice questions and answers with the students using pictures as flashcards. Activity: Game: Whisper game. Make two teams. The teacher shows one person from each team a picture. They then have to run back to the next student on their team and whisper the correct question. The last person from each team races to the top of the class to find the correct picture and then shout out the correct question. The winner is the fastest team providing they have the correct questions and picture.

09/30/2005 Unit 7: The Shoemakers Help. Review Dialogue: A: What is/ are he/ she/ you/ we/ they doing? B: I’m/ You’re/ He’s/ She’s/ We’re/ You’re/ They’re. New Dialogue: A: Is he fish ing? B: Yes he is. No he isn’t. Dialogue: A: What time is it? B: It’s o’clock. Teacher puts time flash cards up on the board and asks, “What time is it?” Then elicits the correct answers to the board under the pictures. Activity: Worksheets: What are you doing: Review practice. Listen and complete page 85 by ticking the boxes. What time is it? Practice. Answer the questions on page 84 orally first, and then write the sentences. Game: Mime game. Teacher first mimes and students answer with the correct sentence. Then students take their turn to mime.

Vocabulary: Sweater, shirt, pants, jacket, sneakers, shoes, coat, gloves, scarf, hat, cap. Teacher asks questions and students answer by looking at the pictures. Activity: Worksheet: Listen, read and write, pages 96 and 97. Game: Hangman using the clothes vocabulary.

10/10/2005 Unit 5: Shoes for Sale. Dialogue: A: Do you want a ? B: Yes please. No thanks. Vocabulary: A wagon, a yo-yo, a doll, a puzzle, a ball, a jumprope. Teacher takes the students through the dialogue. Then introduces the new words on page 60. Activity: Worksheet: Listen, read and write on page 63. Game: Hammer game. Put the pictures on the board with magnets. Take 2 volunteers from the class. The teacher says the question and then the students run to be the first to hit the picture with their hammer. The winner must answer the question from the whole class “ Do you want a ?” by saying “Yes please.” The loser answers “No thanks”.

10/17/2005 Unit 4: Prepositions. Dialogue: Where’s the ? It’s in/ on/ under/ behind/ in front of the . Vocabulary: chair, table, door, slide, swing, tree, floor, bed, box, socks, computer game, kite, ball, bird. Do actions for in, on, under, behind in front. Put the flash cards for the vocabulary around the room and ask the question “Where’s the ……….?” Students make sentence to answer. Activity: Game: Magnetic playground. Put the objects in the playground and then make sentences to say where they are. Worksheet: Write the sentences about the playground.

10/31/2005 Story book: Inside Mary Elizabeth’s House First read to the students letting them look in at the pictures. They all gather round the teacher’s chair. Do the actions with the story and encourage the kids to copy. Read with a happy voice at a good rhythm. Repeat the story 3 times, these times showing the kids the book pages by holding up the book. Get them to read one by one and correct pronunciation. Activity: Worksheet: Draw the monster and label the picture. Ask them to write sentences describing the monster.

10/31/2005 Story book: Inside Mary Elizabeth’s House First read to the students letting them look in at the pictures. They all gather round the teacher’s chair. Do the actions with the story and encourage the kids to copy. Read with a happy voice at a good rhythm. Repeat the story 3 times, these times showing the kids the book pages by holding up the book. Get them to read one by one and correct pronunciation. Write the days of the week on the board and have them copy them down. Activity: Game: Running and spelling game. Write the days of the week on the board. Students repeat the spelling. Then one by one, erase the words and ask them how to spell them. They then do the running game. Make two teams. The teacher says a word, for example Tuesday. The first two students of each team run to the board and write the word. Then run back to their team and pass the marker to the next student who writes the next word that the teacher says. The winner is the team who finishes first provided they have the most right spellings. Repeat X3

11/07/2005 Story Time: The Witches Stew. Review Vocabulary: Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday, Friday, Saturday, Sunday. Give spelling test. First read to the students letting them look in at the pictures in the story “The Witches Stew.” They all gather round the teacher’s chair. Do the actions with the story. Repeat the story 3 times, showing the kids the book pages and holding up the book. Get them to read one by one and correct pronunciation. Activity: Game: Running game. Make two teams. The teacher gives an instruction from the story and one student from each team runs against each other to write the words in the pot and make the stew. 11/14/2005 Guess Who? Dialogue: Q: Does the mystery person have ? glasses/ a mustache/ a beard/ white hair/ blonde hair/ curly hair/ straight hair/ a cap. A: Yes he does. / No, he doesn’t. Q: Is the mystery person ? bald, a man, a woman, white, black. A: Yes he is. / No, he isn’t. First show the cards and learn the vocabulary. Teacher practices these sentences by putting them on the board and showing the picture from the game box “Guess Who”. Activity: Game: Guess Who? Split the class into two teams. Write 10 number sentences on the board and have them write the word sentence and the number sentence on their page. Help them when necessary. Game: Bingo. Draw a grid on a piece of paper and show the students how to do this on the back of their own piece of paper. Get them to randomly write in numbers in the squares from 1 – 20. Then give them all some buttons. Call bingo by doing sums e.g. 5+5. The students first answer the sum “10” and then cover 10 on their sheet with a button. The first full house wins.

11/25/2005 Plus and Minus, Multiply and divide. Sentences: One plus two equals three. 10 minus 2 equals 8. Teacher asks questions to the students e.g. “What’s 1 plus 5?” Students reply, “1+5=6”. Teacher writes the number and word sentences on the board. Activity: Worksheet: Give each student a piece of paper. Write 10 number sentences on the board and have them write the word sentence and the number sentence on their page. Help them when necessary. Game: Bingo. Play the box set bingo game with number all different bingo cards with numbers from one to 100. Then give them all some buttons. Call bingo by doing sums e.g. 5/5=1. The students first answer the sum “10” and then cover 10 on their sheet with a button. The first full house wins.

11/28/2005 Story time: The jacket I wear in the snow. Review Vocabulary: Sweater, shirt, pants, jacket, sneakers, shoes, coat, gloves, scarf, hat, cap. Teacher uses the clothes magnets and the pictures of the boy and girl to review. Read to the students letting them look in at the pictures in the story “The Witches Stew.” They all gather round the teacher’s chair. Do the actions with the story. Repeat the story 3 times, showing the kids the book pages and holding up the book. Get them to read one by one and correct pronunciation. Activity: Game: Make two teams. Stick the magnets on the board. The students must run and write the correct spelling beside the clothes and then run back. The team finished in the fastest time is the winner.
