Mr Dickie was commenting after reports the government plans to introduce a carbon price cap and a ban on the international trade in carbon credits generated under a planned NZ emissions trading scheme (ETS). http://tinyurl.com/southemets ************************************************ CHILE FOREST PLANTING LAW UPDATE ‘URGENT’ – CLIMATE CHANGE HEAD The head of a Chilean climate change agency says the renewal of the country's forestry incentive law is urgent. The statement can as Carbon Finance reported a key delegate as saying that “time-wasting” by the G77+China group at recent informal talks in Bonn, Germany meant that a mandate for the next session, in Bangkok next month, could not be agreed. http://tinyurl.com/southemtime ************************************************ MONDI LOSS BUT SOME POSITIVES AS RESTRUCTURING TAKES HOLD The impact of the global financial crisis has only just begun to be reflected in the financial results for the South African operations of paper and packaging-maker, the Mondi Group. The Joint Statement identifies the destructive impacts of illegal logging and recognises that while industry has a responsibility in ensuring illegal logging is eliminated, the Government needs to take the leadership role. http://tinyurl.com/southempressure ************************************************ NORSKE SKOG BIO BIO REDIRECTING EXPORTS AS NEWSPRINT PRICE FALLS The drop in demand for newsprint in neighbouring Latin American markets has seen Norske Skog Bio Bio looking further afield.
