SOUNDS OF NEW YORK (sound of construction work under copy) These are the sounds of New York. Building --- growing --- working together. (sound of school bells and subway/busses under copy) It doesn’t happen on its own. It happens because of the working men and women of New York State’s unions. Construction workers – teachers– police & fire --- healthcare workers and so many more. (sounds of police/fire sirens under copy) New York is facing tough times. But we’ve pulled together and rebuilt New York before -- be it the Great Depression or the tragedy of 9/11. (sound effects stop) But not when some politicians sound like this: (collage of different men’s gruff voices- voices overlapping) Let’s blame it on the unions. Claim they’re overpaid. Tear up the contracts. (back to narrator) That doesn’t sound right. New York’s unions will do their part --- but they shouldn’t get taken apart. Sharing the pain is hard. Blaming and placing it allon working families is easy. And it’s wrong. (Back to sound underneath of crowd noise) Politicians shouldn’t play the blame game with workers, making cuts that ruin our schools, neighborhoods and ability to care for our families. How should we rebuild New York?. No scapegoats. All of us sacrificing.. Now that sounds like New York PAID FOR BY the NYS AFL-CIO
